How I Stopped Worrying and Learned to Love the Powerline

Posted by: Tweed1234 on 03 March 2017

My 2 Powerlines have been plugged into the 272 and 250 DR in my main room, with kettle leads for my other 2 systems.  I had not thought of plugging into my other two cheaper systems, but decided one Sat afternoon to try it out.  So:

Room 1

UQ2 = The famous UQ bounce got solid, and worked magic with the Neat SX2, which while very capable in my master bedroom can have a tendency to sound a bit dry and woody.  Tick!!

Room 2

NAP 100 = With the PL in the NAP 100, the sound become darker, more powerful, fuller.  This is my TV room - just had to rewatch a whole bunch of disaster movies just to appreciate it.

DAC v1 = I really did not expect this, but putting the 2nd PL into the DACv1 with the PLed NAP100 totally transformed the system.  I have never heard the humble DACv1+NAP100 sounding so wide, expansive, detailed, and insightful.  My Gurus, which excelled in the midrange, were taken to the next level.  A wonderful, wonderful addition.

Double tick!!

Main Room

For those with LP12s, I also had the shock of my life when I plugged the PL into the Radikal.  While not night and day, it lowered the noise floor even more and more weight to the bass.

Going out shopping for a whole bunch SH Powerlines now.  Yes, i believe they will even make my kettle boil faster

Tweed - I think PLs almost transformed every Naim component I've used them on.   But not my TT PSU.  Strange.

I've recently changed pre amp from a 282 to a 252 which meant one of my pl was no longer used for the NAPSC. I plugged it into my pioneer av amp and together with making up mains leads from high quality copper cable and decent audiofile plugs for the tv and blurry player this has transformed a 9 year old system. Picture quality from the HD ready Pioneer tv is stunning. I wouldn't swap for a cheap full-hd TV. The sound is much fuller and more detailed.

I must admit I have never noticed any difference with PL. Not surprising given how they arrived. One came with the 552. I bought a second which was connected when my 500 arrived.  For me, I love that they are there. One less thing to consider changing.

I have another arriving with the newly serviced and DR'd SC which should be here in a few days. Small chance of me not fitting everything at once. That leaves one standard lead in the system. Will get round to this sometime. Peace of mind and all that.

I put three on my wife's Stannah stairlift. I advise fellow forum members to earth their telescopes properly before acting on this advice, as I missed her exit orbit from Ganymede.

Cheaper than a stairlift to heaven I suppose.

I had a spare so put it on the Core feeding a DAC, that was surprisingly effective.
