TQ Black Diamond Speaker Cables on Home Dem?

Posted by: wenger2015 on 03 March 2017

The TQ Black Diamond Speaker cables have arrived for a home demo.

I have invited Finkfan over, so as to have a 2nd opinion.

We played a familiar cd from the group Fink, we both often use this as the reference cd for any potential upgrades.

After the first track, I immediately realised these cables are going to be good...

After the second and third tracks I almost found myself speechless .....bearing in mind I'm used to listening to TQ ultra blacks, which in my opinion our very very good, I've also had Super Lumina on dem a few weeks ago....which again our very very good....

All I can say is WOW, the extra detail, the timing, the soundstage , just everything is absolutely exquisite ...magic....talk about the musicians being in the room....

As each track played, the cables just seemed to get better and better and better....one particular review described these cables as being a masterpiece of cable design....  It summerises it perfectly....

What did my good friend Finkfan think? With his much younger ears?

Well exactly the same as me, I don't think I've seen a bigger grin on his face....

We both sat and listened to 10 tracks,  both of us thinking the same thing...Are they worth £630 per metre? , absolutely .....

I will be having a really enjoyable weekend....

And Yes, I will be ordering a set...

I wonder if a Supercap would make a more fundamental difference. Or a CDS3 come to that. Source first and all that. It would be a useful comparison.

'CDS3 would be a useful comparison' for a lot less wedge.

They are truely stunning cables [@mention:50422349809511500]. I've heard that Fink album many many times but never like this. It was like Fin was in the room. So much more detail. I could visualize the instruments and where in the sound stage they were being played. Everything was more natural and realistic. There were instruments I've not heard before. All of this without silver in the wires meant there was no extended top end. No harshness. Just more music. Yes they are expensive, but so is a black box. Are they worth it??? Every penny!!!

I'm sure a bigger better power supply would be good as would a CDS3, but these cables have shown us just how bloody good the current setup is. Whichever boxes you add to your system, chances are they're being held back by those wires.

Agree with you, I assume most have not had an opportunity to hear the black diamonds....

Quite right, I've not. But I hear my CDS3 almost daily :-)

I demoed the Ultra Blacks vs Superlumina speaker cable and the UBs beat the pants of the SL and marginally cheaper.  Personal view and taste of course. I love my UBs and now curious about what the Diamonds or even the Silver Diamond could do. Tellurium know something about cables based on phase distortion.

If you love the UB you'll go crazy when you hear the Diamonds [@mention:47182978705516555]

I'm more then confident the CDS3 is a superb bit of kit.  It's what it can do with the TQ Black Diamonds that will surprise you...

[@mention:51970829741422995] - oh oh, I was thinking my next move would be a Tangerine Stiletto for my LP12 but sounds like (sorry for pun) I might have to take a detour. Like they said about the UBs, once you hear them there's no turning back! How true. I was very content with the Blacks as upgrade to NACA5 and then I heard the UBs. Darn.

I have the blacks at the moment. The Ultra blacks are a fantastic upgrade on those. But the the diamonds are stunning!!

UPDATE Day 2

I have left the system running all night, the Black Diamonds are nicely warmed up....

I can confirm these cables are Absolutely Exceptional, IMHO I would say without hesitation, it's equivalent to a Black box upgrade x 2.

At the recent Bristol Show, I recall talking to one dealer about the value of a good cable loom, his comments suggested it's all nonsense,  all you need is two lengths of copper wire.....boll . . . ocks!!!

It just goes to show, you have to trust your own ears........

Whatever is inside these cables? Snake oil....?? Magic mushroom juice? .......elephant  saliva ???

They work...........

ps...... am not one for exaggerated comments but only give them a dem if your budget allows, otherwise best left well alone...

I shall pop round shortly to have another listen!

Well I think I can safely say I will not be experiencing these cables but good luck and happy listening to those that do......

and there was me think I was Mr HiFi Barry Big B****** with my TQ Blacks .....

Posted on: 04 March 2017 by Finkfan

The blacks after very good Bob. I use them. Do not audition the Diamonds. Sometimes it's best not knowing what you're missing!

Posted on: 04 March 2017 by Finkfan

Don't listen to a 250DR either.....same reason.

I wouldn't worry; there's always going to be someone with bigger bollocks than you.

Excellent feedback Wenger.
Given the choice, would you spend £6,500 for 2x5m lengths of this cable or would you spend it on improving your sources?

It's a personal judgement call.  I would personally put the money into the turntable/arm (as a vinyl music lover) and maybe swap the XPSDR for a 555PS, but it's your call not mine - hence the question.

Best regards, FT

source first, always source first.... for me anyway.
