TQ Black Diamond Speaker Cables on Home Dem?
Posted by: wenger2015 on 03 March 2017
The TQ Black Diamond Speaker cables have arrived for a home demo.
I have invited Finkfan over, so as to have a 2nd opinion.
We played a familiar cd from the group Fink, we both often use this as the reference cd for any potential upgrades.
After the first track, I immediately realised these cables are going to be good...
After the second and third tracks I almost found myself speechless .....bearing in mind I'm used to listening to TQ ultra blacks, which in my opinion our very very good, I've also had Super Lumina on dem a few weeks ago....which again our very very good....
All I can say is WOW, the extra detail, the timing, the soundstage , just everything is absolutely exquisite ...magic....talk about the musicians being in the room....
As each track played, the cables just seemed to get better and better and better....one particular review described these cables as being a masterpiece of cable design.... It summerises it perfectly....
What did my good friend Finkfan think? With his much younger ears?
Well exactly the same as me, I don't think I've seen a bigger grin on his face....
We both sat and listened to 10 tracks, both of us thinking the same thing...Are they worth £630 per metre? , absolutely .....
I will be having a really enjoyable weekend....
And Yes, I will be ordering a set...

Given the choice, would you spend £6,500 for 2x5m lengths of this cable or would you spend it on improving your sources? It's a personal judgement call. I would personally put the money into the turntable/arm (as a vinyl music lover) and maybe swap the XPSDR for a 555PS, but it's your call not mine - hence the question.
Best regards, FT
This is the reason I have been waiting for these cables to arrive for a home dem, the questions can only be answered in my view by this method.
If I decided this was going to be my final upgrade, then I would with a big smile spend my money on these cables.... the bonus for me is I only need 2x 2m lengths and I can get full px on my 2x3.5m ultra blacks....so it's a no brainer as they say...
As I have said in previous comments, I am not one for exaggerated statements, but these cables are the best I have ever heard by some distance....
The thing is guys there area cables out there that let you hear the rest of your system at it's full potential. Agreed that source is highly important. They rest of the system can only amplify and send out what it's being fed with. But this is why wires are just as important as the boxes. Ideally there'd be no wires. But there is, so if they're as neutral and non damaging to the signal as possible, that's ideal! After all, that's what we want from our boxes and speakers.

and there was me think I was Mr HiFi Barry Big B****** with my TQ Blacks .....
I wouldn't worry; there's always going to be someone with bigger bollocks than you.
I know this to be true.....my partner is a nurse.
I demoed both Superlumina and Black Diamond and my impression was that SL gave an improvement over Nac 5 in terms of detail but lost some of the underlying 'solidity' of A5, but Black Diamond added the detail while retaining the best of A5. Orchestral works, eg, were rather more harsh with SL, though undoubtedly showing more detail. Similarly with some fenale vocals. Both were fine with nainstream rock/instrumenta music. In the end I opted for SL as I couldn't justify the added expense for BD. To be fair, the SL has matured but with hindsight I do still wonder whether I should have pushed the boat out - I would have forgotten the cost by now!
I couldn't get on with the SL cables whenever I've heard them. The 'forced' high frequencies just aren't for my ears. The Black diamonds are as smooth as silk and would be the last cables I'd own.

I had a home dem of the SL a couple of months back, I really wanted to like them but my experience was exactly the same, I preferred to keep my TQ ultra blacks.....
UPDATE Day 3,
Only had a Window of opportunity to listen about 10pm last night, I had two cds on listening list
Pink Floyd 'The Wall' and 'Dark side of the moon'
'The Wall' was put on first....the helicopter segment at the end of track 3...'WOW'....the detail , depth of sound, was breathtaking....
I ended up listening to the whole album twice, it was like listening to the album for the first time, so much their not noticed before.....so clear but not clinical, it was as Finkfan described in thread, ' as smooth as silk'...... i realised at this point it was about 3am......enough said
At least I have now convinced myself'. I'm not dreaming ' this is real, these cables are magnificent,
although having said that I have just read a review from hifi pig on the TQ Silver Diamonds, and apparently they are better still....do I need to give them a try before I spend my money?
Yeah why not??
I've only heard the silver diamonds once. At the Bristol show 2016 with Russel K speakers. It would interesting to hear them in a home environment and between a 300DR and Sopra2s.

Maybe before I pull the trigger, they need to be auditioned..... Be interesting to directly compare them with the Black diamonds??
Personally I'd wait for the Diamond Diamonds.

I hope it didn't hurt you to much, it could be painful down their....
I've owned TQ black diamond speaker cables for over 18 months and I can completely support what's been said, they are exceptional. Are they expensive? Yes, would I swap them out? No.
If they are new cables I'd suggest sitting tight as they take some time to fully open up. Enjoy

These are a demo set, so nicely run in and performing magnificently.
I think with all the praise in this post Geoff from TQ should give you a set for free ![]()

You would not believe it, but Amazingly , Geoff has been in touch.....and it's a.......................................................No ![]()
Hmm - interesting all of this. I must give TQ a try again sometime. It was the only cable that (to me) actually bettered NAC-A5 (rather than just sound different) and i ended up running TQ Black for a couple of years. It's been good to read of the experiences above on the top spec cables (albeit not the prices !)

I can't speak for other ranges of cables but TQ are extremely good at what they do...
I've always wondered just how good top end expensive cables are, and in this case with the TQ Black diamonds ....all I can say is incredible ....
Enjoyable commentary, Wenger. Sounds like they're keepers!

Bit late to the party here but would totally agree the Tellurium Black Diamond speaker cables are exceptional.
I've had my pair for the past 4 month's and I could not be happier with them. I was lucky in that I managed to find a pair pre owned, still a substantial investment but I would still be happy to pay the full RRP as they simply do so much right. I loaned the full SL loom from my dealer and the Black Diamonds together with my AR Sound Lunar Equatorial interconnects blew the SL full loom out of the water. I did some blind testing with a friend and we both very quickly came to the same conclusion.
Best of luck Wenger with your new cables they are worth every penny. One thing I noted with the BDS, even though my set were pre loved they still took around 300hrs to run in and probably longer to fully settle in.
Enjoy.

Good to hear your comments, these really are exceptional cables, and like yourself I would be more then happy to pay full price .....
I remember very well the instant first impression of the TQ Blacks so can only imagine what the Diamonds are like , a definite case of don't try if you can't buy I'd say ..... At least there's one happy Mr Wenger at the moment ! Enjoy !
