TQ Black Diamond Speaker Cables on Home Dem?
Posted by: wenger2015 on 03 March 2017
The TQ Black Diamond Speaker cables have arrived for a home demo.
I have invited Finkfan over, so as to have a 2nd opinion.
We played a familiar cd from the group Fink, we both often use this as the reference cd for any potential upgrades.
After the first track, I immediately realised these cables are going to be good...
After the second and third tracks I almost found myself speechless .....bearing in mind I'm used to listening to TQ ultra blacks, which in my opinion our very very good, I've also had Super Lumina on dem a few weeks ago....which again our very very good....
All I can say is WOW, the extra detail, the timing, the soundstage , just everything is absolutely exquisite ...magic....talk about the musicians being in the room....
As each track played, the cables just seemed to get better and better and better....one particular review described these cables as being a masterpiece of cable design.... It summerises it perfectly....
What did my good friend Finkfan think? With his much younger ears?
Well exactly the same as me, I don't think I've seen a bigger grin on his face....
We both sat and listened to 10 tracks, both of us thinking the same thing...Are they worth £630 per metre? , absolutely .....
I will be having a really enjoyable weekend....
And Yes, I will be ordering a set...

Excellent, it's going to be a very interesting, the independent reviews suggest they are an absolute revelation in cable technology .....I can't wait to hear them.....i don't normally do ' excited' but I must confess I am...
Keep us posted on how it goes not that I'm thinking of upgrading from the black diamonds as I am over the moon with what they do and at 2X 5m the silvers would be a step too far for me.
Look forward to hearing your impression and comparison to the blackD.
Yes, will certainly post some feedback... as you say how you can improve on the Black Diamonds is going to be very intriguing ...
Thanks for the thought, FinkFan. I would be interested. Meantime, I've got a pair of dealer demo' black diamonds put by for me to trial as soon as I get back to UK in 2/3 weeks. Courtesy of Wenger's enthusiastic review. P'raps I should ask for a demo pair of blue diamonds, too?
Wenger, I don't want to know about the Silvers
Like you, I can get away with a 2m pair but it's a stretch just for the Diamonds, never mind anything else. I'll also be trialling them next to a pair of copper cables from Sean at CHC. His are 75% less cost than the Diamonds. Will be interesting to see how it goes.
The black diamonds will be far better than the blue, but at a price. The Blue diamonds would be about 75% less than the blacks I'd have thought. Worth an audition at that price.
Yep, I'm bound to agree. Are you tempted to upgrade your Blacks?!
Oh yes! Black diamonds are what I'm heading towards, but the next step sometime soon is ultra blacks for me as I'll be doing a black box upgrade this year too.

It will be interesting to hear your thoughts on the Black Diamonds and the Copper cables ....when you get back...i'm not going to say a word about the Silver Diamonds.........until they arrive... ![]()
Wenger2015, from one long-suffering Gooner to another: before you plunk down the cash, would you please demo a CDS3/252/300 with NAC A5 vs. a CDX2/282/300 with TQ Silver Diamonds?
they're roughly in the same ballpark, price-wise.

Thats an interesting comparison.... Not heard the cds3, but no doubt will be a step up.
282v252 seems to be like marmite on the forum, different or better?
Silver Diamonds v Nac a5, that's going to be a monumental difference.
As for the Arsenal, it's a good job we like our music.. ![]()
I had both 282 and 252. The 282 was, in my set-up, a bit warmer-sounding with a rounder bass; the 252 was a leap forward in detail and precision. But it pushed things too far for my ears, as leading edges went too glary and sound became too analytical (some may say 'truthful'!) in my set-up/room. Looking forward to hearing full Naim in your room, Wenger.
My business partner lives near Munich. It's as well he's not the gloating type..
Don't forget you'd also need a supercap for the 252 [@mention:50422349809511500]. The £s are racking up now! ![]()

The 252 is the 'better' pre-amp. Whether you will like it in your system with your preferences is another thing as the presentation of both pre-amps is quite different. I've had both. You'll get lots of opinions on this topic so best to audition one yourself ![]()

Did you have to 252 for a while? or was it on Dem? Whenever I have heard the 252 it's always sounded really good , no harshness, and as you say lots of detail.
Just email when you are back and we can arrange..
Ps, glad you have a non gloating partner... ![]()
I had the 252 for about 8 mths. It was stunningly detailed and pacey - as you'd expect from Naim. I changed to a tube pre to take off my perceived glare; which worked. But sacrificed some of the PRAT. I've either got hearing very sensitive to upper frequencies or my room is very reflective. Or both. The listen in your room will, hopefully, be a conclusive indicator because you don't hear it & if I don't hear it, then it must be my room (notwithstanding difference between 282/252.) If I find it glares, then it's my ears and Naim. Of course, the TQBD may solve all..
Any nac-n 272/nap 300 owners using black diamond? If yes, what signal cable are you using?

Hi yes I have been using AR Sound Lunar Equatorial DIN > XLR cables the for a few months now and am very happy with the performance. I did comparisons with Super Lumina, Chord STA they were better than both, especially the Chord which just sounded dead in my system. It was a closer call with the SL but the Lunar Equatorial had the edge and at a third of the price.
I was expecting a delivery of the TQ Silver Diamonds today for dem.
Unfortunately my dealer has sent the TQ ultra Silvers by mistake.![]()
So will provide some views on these over the weekend ....
The Silver Diamonds will be delivered the end of next week now.......oh the pain ![]()

Indeed. It will also be interesting to hear how they compare to the Black Diamonds ![]()

Yes, should be interesting, hopefully you will be able to assist in the process....![]()
As I am having a busy weekend, I have given Finkfan the TQ Ultra Sivers to try in his system for a few days.
I briefly dropped in for a listen this afternoon.
The Ultra Silvers are not what I was expecting.
I have always assumed the silver content in the wires would possibly provide a more clinical, less natural sound, making the highs a little sharp and edgy, harsh even.
But how wrong could I be, quite the opposite really...
despite the fact these cables need a decent run in period , i was hearing a very warm, smooth, and detailed presentation ....in fact a lot more detail....
So far I am extremely impressed, I have arranged with Finkfan another listening session tomorrow, which will include an A and B comparison with the Ultra Black's ..........what a great hobby we have.... happy days as they say..

And I was practising the eight note triplet subdivision this evening. Starting with complex riff in 5/4, moving to 4/4 and then the triplets

Finally managed, especially in the required BPM (BPM = Beats Per Minute).
Have fun with the TQ's tomorrow!
