issues with just one iradio station Plus vtuner added station not visible
Posted by: rohan on 05 March 2017
Hi Folks,
NAC272/250dr
I listen to internet radio a lot, specifically aardvark blues fm , MP3 128 k and for the last 4 weeks have noticed frequent buffering related gaps as the buffering goes down to 0% for a few seconds then back to 100%. It only seems to affect this station , all the others i listen to at the same bitrates work abolutely fine maintaining 100%. I dont use wifi, its a wired connection .
I cant seem to find a way to fix this.
Have reset app, restored factory settings on 272, rebooted routers,
Also does Naim iradio not support AAC streams or display manually added stations in the app?
I found a local radio station dance fm 97.8 (in dubai , uae) , found out that it listed in vtuner and tried to add it in myradio.naim with the mac address of the streamer .
I was able to do that but neither the favorite group that i created nor the station (AAC) is visible in the app. Just to be sure I also affed an MP3 128 kbps stream as well, neither show up. What am i missing?
Any pointers?
Cheers
You probably have a local broadband/streaming issue. Also Naim iRadio does support AAC, I'm listening to Radio Paradise on 320kbs AAC right now. You will find the iRadio 320kbs link in iRadio>Naim's Choice
I can't help much with loading unlisted vTuner stations as I've not done it on my NDX. Its simple enough with my Sony in SA, but better a Naim expert helps you on that.
Thanks mike. But its just one staion aardvark that has this issue others work fine so if it was a broadband issue it should affect all stations right?
Will take the other issue with support.
Thanks
Hi Rohan, by local broadband I mean its local to Aardvark. if all other stations on the same/better line rate (kbs) are OK it is 99% indicative that in general broadband is OK
thanks mike,
Last night i streamed aardvark to my pc on the naim.vtuner link and has no buferring issues,
any will keep monitoring.
Cheers
With the added station, are you definitely looking in the right place on the app?
You need to go to the root iradio menu, i.e. select iradio input, then press back until you see added stations, Naim's choice, location, genre etc. Then pick added stations.
Apologies if you're already doing it this way, but it took me a minute to figure it out myself when I tried adding a station.
Hi Dave,
Yes I am looking in the 'added stations'
Maybe i need to reinstall the naim app i also dont see a way to clear the cache if any.
thx
Ah. Clear cache should be under settings - input settings - upnp. If it's not then something's definitely misbehaving. Maybe a reinstallation would help.
If that doesn't work, dropping Naim support an email would be a good idea.

I had exactly the same problem adding station's to the list. It worked up until 2 years ago and then I suddenly could not manually add any new station using the vTuner web interface or app even if it plays on iRadio. Something changed 2 years ago and I can only wildly suspect it might have something to do with the location, possible regional restrictions or similar. I also lived in the Middle East at the time...
I've never been able to add stations to the app using vTuner.
I just tried doing this as an experiment. Rather than adding a station which didn't appear on vtuner (which is what I did before, and led to the new station appearing under added stations), I tried to add a known vtuner station to my favourites using the web interface.
Can't find it in the app either. No sign of the station itself, or the favourites group I was forced to specify in the web interface when trying to add the station.
I suggest an email to Naim support asking if they can explain how to do it.
thanks for trying it , i had exactly the same result as the station was available in vtuner but wouldnt show. Off to support now..
are you saying that manually adding a new station as if it wasnt in the available list might work? How do i get the details?
cheers
also could you please confirm if aardvark blues fm works without bufferring for you?
No buffering issues here at the moment.

I just played Aardvark for a while on my 172, and it seemed like smooth sailing. Not to mention a nice background to the interminable admin rubbish I'm sat at my computer trying to get out of the way!
But just now it cut out and then came back in. I'll keep listening for a while to see if it happens again. How often are the drops you've had, OP?
As for adding stations, as I understand it, the 'add station' stuff is only for stations that aren't listed in vtuner. If the station you want to listen to is already present in the vtuner database, then you need to find it via the app and add it to your favourites there. The in-app search could be better, but it's generally possible.
For example I just found a station called Dance FM by going through genre-dance-all stations-search for dance fm. While it's playing, you can 'add to favourites' by pressing the star on the now playing screen (just in case you didn't already know that). Whether it's the station you're after I don't know - I'd have tried searching by location to be a bit more sure, but UAE doesn't show up on the list. But something like that could do the trick.
Hi thanks for confirming. It has been buffering very frequently until yesterday but its better today. It must be something local to aardvark.
Tried adding the dancefm url into vtuner manually it showed in the added stations in the app but wouldn't play. So some more tweaking on the URL needed .
Will also check the full search through the app to see if it's the same one u found
Thx

Thanks for checking tjw
OK , seem to have found a way to add a station manually
My problem was although i find the station on vtuner, when i add it to my locations , it didn'tshow in the naim aoo in 'added stations'
So i tried to add it manually using naim.vtuner, however the url i used from the stations live link on the website did not work with a 'could not play' error in the naim app.
The issue was trying to find the real url and vtuner doesnt tell you how.
So I hit play on the station icon from the naim.vtuner website and it downloaded a plsxxxx file with a .ram extension and tries to play it on the default 'groove' app in win 10. Instead of playing it on a media player, i associated the file type (.ram) with the chrome broswer instead. and then doubleclicked the downloaded file. The browser failed to play the file but revealed the underlying resource url
http://www.vtuner.com/vtunerweb/asp/dynampls.asp?SID=83165&link=http://playerservices.streamtheworld.com/api/livestream-redirect/DANCE_FMAAC_SC
from that , the last part i.e the link below worked
http://playerservices.streamtheworld.com/api/livestream-redirect/DANCE_FMAAC_SC
I Copied that into the manual add option in naim.tuner web interface ( linked to my 272 mac address)
Now it shows in my naim app and plays well. unfortunately its 64kbps so not as good a sound as i hoped but good enough i guess and no drops so far...

It should not be that complicated. Something is wrong with either vtuner interface or its backend.
As long as you have the correct stream URL, it isn't particularly complicated. It's not really vtuner's fault if the station Rohan was trying to add didn't give the right info out.
true, wasnt their fault...but vtuner could perhaps display it under some property in its interface...

No it is not that. Something is wrong with vtuner.
I cannot add any station to the list and I was able to do so until 2 years ago. Thecstations I find play nicely but the added station list remains empty.
Talked to support on friday. The new app coming out today for android ’might’ fix the stations not showing
Wait n see
