Analogue output of Uniti Atom/Nova/Star

Posted by: Sourav Mazumder on 06 March 2017

Wondering if there is a way to use Uniti Atom/Nova/Star with other Preamps ? I see only 1 pair of RCA output in the pictures in the website. Can they be used to connect to other Preamps ?

If you really wanted or needed to, yes you can use the RCA out (x 1 pair only). They are of course designed to be connected to speakers!

I thought they are designed to be connected to Power Amps.

I used to connect a UnitiQute 2 to a Nac 122x but that did have a pair of RCA pre outputs the new Uniti's seem to have a sub/pre single RCA output but there are lots of products,  cables out there that go from a single RCA jack to double RCA's.  If I remember rightly the 122x had a setting via the remote that enabled you to turn off the volume on the Qute so that only the volume on the Nac worked something to do with AV input and Unity Gain I think.

Hi, they are designed to be connected to loudspeakers using their own poweramps, but do have a pre-amp out to allow connecting to a seperate amplifier or subwoofer if preferred.

Hi Simon,

Thanks for your input.

I need little more clarity on "a pre-amp out to allow connecting to a separate amplifier".

When you say amplifier is it a Pre-amplifier (where Atom/Nova provides output as a source) or a Power Amplifier (where Atom/Nova provides output as pre-amp) ?

I'm exploring the possibility of using either Atom/Nova with my existing Pre-Amplifier.

Wouldn't you be better with a 272?

or even a dedicated streamer e.g. an ND5XS or NDX ?

Ok, to be frank, though it may sound childish , the reason for me considering Atom/Nova is the look and feel and the LCD display of them. I really loved them. Specially at the cost of Atom I found it very compelling.

SQ wise I already have a great Dac and Streamer (PS Audio Direct Stream Dac with Bridge). Also I have Naim nDac. So even having digital output would have been more than enough for me. But since it is not there in Atom/Nova/Star wondering whether I can use the analogue output to my pre-amp.

They'd be good too. My thought was that the 272 preamp is a lot better than the 122. But yes, an ND5XS would be a nice match. I certainly wouldn't get a new Uniti and use only a third of it.

Well ND5XS costs $4500 and Uniti Atom $3000 here in USA.
