Bill Kirchen (Commander Cody) on UK tour in March
Posted by: Pev on 07 March 2017
The legendary Bill Kirchen (lead guitar/trombone/vocals and founder member of Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen) is touring the UK this month. He's playing mostly very small venues such as pubs - eg. Golden Lion in Bristol and ticket prices are around £15. Tour dates and ticket links are on his web site (Google his name) - lots of dates all over the country.
Wowza!
Thanks for the heads up Pev.
I'm a big fan. A real guitarist's guitarist as they say. I think he's got a good, expressive voice too. I missed him in 2015, but just booked a couple of tix for 27/3 in Topsham thanks to you
for anyone who doesn't know him, try this album for a taster:
All the venues seem small and intimate. Should be awesome.
Thanks for that Pev,
Kevin - was almost ready to book a night in Topsham (one of my favourite UK places) but then looked at the schedule and he is playing Stourbridge, about 4 miles from me so a big saving.

We took a punt 2 for the Ivy House, London. Saw Commander Cody &TLPA at Knebworth '79, don't remember them or even if Bill was playing there.
Always a good show. Check it out if you have the chance.
Went to the Stourbridge gig last night (24th) and it would have been worth £50 per ticket rather than the £12.50 paid so thanks to everyone who put the show on.
If you are going to any shows, take plenty of cash because there were some rather tasty CDs of Bill and other band members in previous outfits - Eggs, Chilli Willi etc.
Time to smoke that cigarette
Topsham last night also a memorable occasion. He (and band) in the very finest form. Fabulous.
Ron, you were right. £50 was the final score after buying the new album 'Transamericana' and the guitar tutorial DVD. I bought the latter partly to try to get a little more into Bill's personal pocket. When I asked him how much of the £25 he would get, he said it was about 2/3rds. He fully deserves it and I'll have fun tripping my fingers up trying some of his licks!
Great Artist and a really nice guy.
He's yet to play the Troubadour in London (Old Brompton a Street) on Saturday and in Whitstable on Sunday before he flies back. If you're local and want a fine evening of fun music and world-class guitar playing, grab yourselves some tickets!
Glad you enjoyed it, a good friend was at Topsham and had a great time - Bristol was brilliant too. I posted a review in the "last concert" thread to reach out to the yet to be converted.
We have tickets for The Ivy House, London for Thursday 30th.
I spoke with Bill K. after his annual concert in the DC area a while ago. The Commander remains active, and Bill plays with him somewhere in the NE US every year.

Bill at Stourbridge. Apologies for quality but it was a small room and I did not want to use flash
