What streamer should I listen to alongside an NDS?
Posted by: roosevelt51 on 11 March 2017
Hi everyone. The subject heading says it all, really. I was wondering people's opinion on what (non-Naim) network streamer(s) I should listen to alongside an NDS when auditioning streamers?
NDX-FM?

A Linn box would seem one obvious contender, Linn Klimax.
Also a dCS Rossini looks interesting.

"roosevelt51"! I have Naim friends on Roosevelt Way NE.
What do you plan to play the NDS through, if you buy it?

Sonos UI used to be the best in the business, may still be. But in an all-Naim system, it is hard for me to recommend any non-Naim streamers, good as they may be, for elegance of integration, and sound quality.

I must agree.
Ah! I see from your October post you already own NDS, 552, 500 etc.
If you are still having issues with varying sound quality, and you have isolated it to the NDS, I suppose it is possible NDX might be less sensitive to environmental issues. But, I would not bet any money on it.
A reference CD player would help for comparison. You could try your UnitiServe via BNC cable into the NDS, to see if you can rule out network pollution.
Best of luck.

A.N.Other renderer into Chord Dave.
Combining music store and renderer has distinct advantages, avoiding streaming files over a network, and options for this include Melco, Innuos Zenith, possibly the Uniti Core, though information about it from users is only just coming to light, and Mac Mini running Audirvana. I have experience with the last of these, and in terms of sound quality it compared favourably with the Melco N1A, though not as an extended formal comparison, while comparisons of the Zenith have been posted on heare.
With separate store, an apparently excellent renderer is the microRendu, though with a DIY element to setting up. I haven't heard it, but Ithere's a thread on this forum called the Hugo of streaming discussing it.
A possible other option is the Chord DSX1000 streamer. Not something I've had any experience of, and its DAC isn't the same as Dave -but apparently is the same as their QBD76 that was their top DAC before Dave, and TonyM says he prefers.
MSB technology: signature or diamond.

Agree...
Sold my NDX a little while back...looked at/tried a few other options....
Just ordered an NDS.....
have a good Sunday
I wonder why one of the Linn streamers has not been added to this list? They seem to have been updated with a newer dac section just recently and may or may not be an interesting alternative.

Linn was mentioned already ...
Lumin S1 along with the others mentioned. Supposedly one of the best. I'd like to hear one myself

audiomat maestro reference, with streaming dac option. simaudio top of the line streaming dac.
What is your plan, roosevelt51?
I think you have two types of contenders to look at if you want to compare.... the advanced dac option while combining the, with a NDX or something comparable. And the streamers like the nds ....
In the first mentioned category Nagra, Medtner, Chord Dave. In the second category Linn, Burmeister, AVM and T&A.
