Subwoofer and 282

Hi Mates,

How should I add a subwoofer correctly  to a 282 based system and what models should be taken into consideration ? Amplification is 282-SCDR-250DR and the current speaker is a pair of Harbeth C7-ES 3. While these Harbeths have very addictíve sound  at middle and high frequencies imho  its bass response could be a bit more fast and more tigth. What would you suggest ?

I played around with an active sub in my setup. I used the rca sub output on my SN but I could have used a din to rca from my Hicap. When I upgrade to a 282 that's what I'll do. I'll probably try a flashback cable for that

I currently have a subwoofer integrated with the Harbeth SHL5 Plus in a novice setup and it does help boost the very low frequencies by just a bit. A subtle but appreciable improvement. Though I only have a single subwoofer which is placed at the centre between speakers. Ideally I think you should have two units at the corners near the main speakers with some sort of Mini-DSP thing inserted somewhere in between.

In my system, the subwoofer (PMC TLE-1) is connected to the Hicap DR. I think this may be the only way you can connect the sub(s) to a Naim system, to have the sub connected to either the Hicap or Supercap.

I am convinced that the results will be stellar when quality subwoofers are used together with proper implementation, with the Harbeth C7ES3. In my case, the PMC sub is a leftover from my Home Theatre setup (now defunct) so the integration is not on a serious level.

I use an N-Sub with my 282, but use the high level connection taken from the speaker terminals. This is, subjectively, Naim's preferred way of making the connection for best sound quality, and has the advantage that the cabling is very cheap compared to a good quality low level lead from a pre out (unless this is supplied with whatever sub you buy.)

Hi I advise if you go sub route to buy one with good digital signal processing.... for room integration. Have a look at the SVS13 ultra with dsp .... these are not cheap around 1800 on amazon.... or pick up a sh Velodyne dd+ series.... I run mine via low level output.... it sounds great...
