Tellurium or Chord
Posted by: lyndon on 12 March 2017
while there has been much discussion on these recently there has been little in the way of comparisons.
All my other upgrades have only one available option
ie super cap Dr, 552, 3 x 500's
its only the cables that could have more than one possibility
looking chiefly at Chord Signature & Sarum and Tellurium Utra Black & Black Diamond

I'd forget the wires. Once you've bought the boxes either you won't be able to afford the wires or both Tellurium and Chord will have changed their ranges, which they do more frequently than most people buy new socks.
Yea, agreed on that point
but as I won't be buying new, it's really a case of snapping up a good deal when it comes along
trickier now obviously 3 500 DRs will be an issue, don't want to go wonky active for very long nor do I want to get a 500 DR'D and have to wait 6 months for it to run in
the same argument can be used for s/h or ex dem cables

Had a Chord Epic Analogue and sent it back for a TQ UB (blind buy).
My comment has very little alignment with your original question .. much like most answers here .. but I replaced a Hi-Line IC (RCA - RCA) with TQ Black Diamond (RCA RCA) and the result was really quite astonishing .. great clarity, great musicality .. I currently have the TQ Black speaker cable ..
I too use the Black Diamond interconnect, although the DIN version. Its very neautral and just allows the music to flow without any emphasis on any particular frequency range.
I also have Hi-Line interconnect (DIN-DIN) on my CDX2.2 and Supernait 2 and I was thinking about a change with TQ ultra black or black diamond but I cannot imagine what are the difference, I'd like a clearer sound. I already have a TQ Black speaker cable.
Out of curiosity, is anyone using the TQ Silver Diamond IC ?
It should be better than the Black Diamond (of course) but TQ told me some time ago that the Black Diamond range is what is most often used by Naim users, as indeed I can read from forum members. So just curious as I too may be looking at a new IC in the near future.
TQ only make 2 versions of their din cables now, black and black diamond. They used to make a graphite version, but no longer. The black din is very good but the diamond, as you'd expect, is far superior.
Yes Finkfan, thanks. I was in fact thinking of their RCA/RCA version as I may be using a non Naim source.
Ah right, I've not tried any myself. I have heard the silver cables at the Bristol show 2016 with Russel K speakers and although they let plenty of detail through, it wasn't a very relaxing listen, which is what I like.
I actually use / used TQ Black and Black Diamond interconnects in RCA-RCA and DIN-DIN configurations.
What source / Naim were you thinking of?
a Metronome C8+ DAC (+ streamer) may be taking the place of my beloved NDS + 555PS DR
Got the ball rolling tonight
bought 2 x 3m Sarum speaker cables tonight
the other 2 pairs I will endeavour to get during the course of the year
so I will be wonky speaker cables 1 x Sarum 2 x Epic for a while
think I'll try the Sarum on the mid

Is there a specific reason you chose the Chord over the Tellurium? I recently did the same after an audition, looking to replace the Atlas interconnect I had.
Thought I would ask in this thread rather than start a new one. Got a Super Limina DI-DIN I/C and very, very happy with the upgrade from Hi Line.
Looking at speaker cables now & waiting for a dealer quote to come back for a TQ Ultra Black 5m run. Anyone mix & matched the SL DIN-DIN, I/C with say TQ Ultra Black and been happy ? Wanted a full SL loom but the 5m price has me looking at alternatives just need a 4m length only and TQ can apparently supply factory terminated 4m lengths. What I am trying to say is will TQ Ultra Black mess with the SL I/C balance that I have now or just wait and save for the LS speaker cable ?
I demoed mixing TQ and SL cables. My ears didn't like it. But yours might. There is something about the synergy that comes from using the same manufacturers cables. Best to demo as always. Don't the SL cables come in 4m lengths too?
Not here in Australia, 3,5,7&9 m options only. I assume a special order can be placed, then the wait time for the order etc.
I cannot demo. either cable, so I may have to play the safer option and go with the SL 5m.

I used to run a TQ Black Diamond DIN and SL speaker cables. Not the best combo to my ears....
What's wrong with 5 meters of NACA5? Goes well with a SuperLumina DIN-DIN.
Call me old fashioned, but I do subscribe to the philosophy that there does exist a certain synergy between cables from the same source.
I recently trialled the Chord Music din / din interconnect in an otherwise Super Lumina loom, and I didn't get on with what it did to the treble end of things.
Sure, I could have borrowed a full Chord Music loom, but the cost of this would have been way beyond what I am prepared to invest in cables, getting on for the figure involved in obtaining a 500 DR demonstrator ....... no contest!
I have now got hold of a set of SL speaker jumpers to replace my existing NacA5 ones, and it sounds great.
Maybe all in the mind, and certainly music to Naim's ears, but with my ageing aural receptors, and my somewhat compromised room acoustics, it couldn't sound better ............... well, maybe with that 500 DR, but that's a story for another day!

Excellent choice Lyndon. I was a very happy user of Sarum speaker cables for several years before recently moving to Music. My email is in my profile if you'd like to chat about getting the best out of Sarum.

Dave, I'm another who buys his pants and socks from Marks.

Testing Clearer Audio DIN-DIN, on loan from a fellow Forum member. Balance seems to be restored now (source is NDX + nDAC + 555PS into SuperNait 2 with HiCap DR). I will also test a SuperLumina DIN in a month or so.
Does the Clearer audio cable also use silver?

Looking at the specs sheet it uses copper conductors, silver-plated shield and silver soldering.
And it has two ferrite suppressors.
