Tellurium or Chord
Posted by: lyndon on 12 March 2017
while there has been much discussion on these recently there has been little in the way of comparisons.
All my other upgrades have only one available option
ie super cap Dr, 552, 3 x 500's
its only the cables that could have more than one possibility
looking chiefly at Chord Signature & Sarum and Tellurium Utra Black & Black Diamond
Lyndon
I guess that explains why it behaves better with the SL cables than the TQ did? Similar design philosophy?
No idea to be honest - I just like how it sounds ![]()
1 pair of Sarum speaker cables arrived today, will try them on the mid range for now

I used Chord Signature for a number of years before switching to TQ Ultra Blacks. The difference is not small and although I liked the Signatures a lot I could never go back.
Regards,
Steve O.
I wasn't that keen on Signature speaker cables a few years back, Sarum though were an utter revelation.
dave marshall posted:Call me old fashioned, but I do subscribe to the philosophy that there does exist a certain synergy between cables from the same source.
I recently trialled the Chord Music din / din interconnect in an otherwise Super Lumina loom, and I didn't get on with what it did to the treble end of things.
Sure, I could have borrowed a full Chord Music loom, but the cost of this would have been way beyond what I am prepared to invest in cables, getting on for the figure involved in obtaining a 500 DR demonstrator ....... no contest!
I have now got hold of a set of SL speaker jumpers to replace my existing NacA5 ones, and it sounds great.
Maybe all in the mind, and certainly music to Naim's ears, but with my ageing aural receptors, and my somewhat compromised room acoustics, it couldn't sound better ............... well, maybe with that 500 DR, but that's a story for another day!
Hi Dave
If you don't mind me asking, what price are the SL links and what change did you hear in the sound?
Thanks ayap1

Hi,
Here's the info about SL links:
"SL speaker links are available as 150 / 200 / 250 mm lengths, and with either 4mm to 4mm, 4mm to spade, spade to 4mm or spade to spade terminations and are around £595 inc VAT for whatever length / termination."
So, not cheap then, and certainly more expensive than the Vertere versions which some members are using.
Well, having already laid out for the full SL loom, itself far from cheap, I felt that my NacA5 links might well be the weak link, (see what I did there?
), so convinced myself that the additional outlay to complete the cabling in SL was justified, especially as I'd just saved myself £3500 following an unsuccessful home trial with a Chord Music interconnect!
The sound?
Who can say whether it's a placebo effect or not, but the whole thing has never sounded better, and the sense of scale and authority I experienced when installing the Super Lumina speaker cables has been enhanced.
This, of course, is with my system, my less than perfect room acoustics and my ageing ears, but I hope this helps.
Dave.

It sounds like the speakers link is the final piece in a full- loom setup.
thanks
Now got 1/3rd of my speaker cables, obviously it's very wonky mixing speaker cables but on first listen with the Sarum on the mids there is a noticeable difference
there is a sense of realism without actually drawing attention to itself
so now just another 2 pairs & 3 x din-xlr
plus a 4 pin din
whilst keeping an eye out for black boxes, that bit with the exception of 2 DR supercaps is going to be costly
when I look at everything I need I have to wonder have got an Andrad midi system here or something,
An Amstad midi system with exceptionally large speakers perhaps
Where are you based Lyndon?
Hello Dave J
im in East Ham, east London, I wouldn't recommend it !
fortunately I bought this place back in 91, so I've benefited from the property prices and a couple of years time I'm off
looking at the moment at maybe Stowmarket / Bury St Eds ( I'm originally from that area) or Peterborough
a detached house with a reasonable bit of land is on the menu so I can build an extension so as to comfortably house the dibbles

Ok, was wondering if you were near me in case you wanted to try out another pair of Sarums. You're not far away.
Thanks for the offer Dave,
already made my mind up, I will be getting another 2 pairs in due course
