Core Update v1.3 and latest Naim IOS app - Issues
Posted by: Richard Choong on 13 March 2017
I assume many of you like me have updated the Core to v1.3? I have have issues with the update and it is EXTREMELY frustrating. Have any of you experienced any issues? Let me list mine:
1. After the update, I find using the Naim app even more laggy then before. Not that it was not already laggy before but it is even worse now. This of course is in contrast to what Naim has stated in their sticky post about the Core update: "Improved: music database performance - this makes browsing your music from the Naim app faster".
2. All the songs in my playlist are gone. The playlists exist but after the update, they have no songs in them (damn!)
3. When I attempt to populate the now empty playlists with albums, it generally isn't able to do so. I have only managed to achieve it once with one album but nothing else.
4. Sometimes attempting to delete the playlists also fails.
5. Turning to the app, I have noticed that when I switch from room to room (ie. from device A to device B and vice versa), it frequently will fail to populate my screen. All I see is a blank screen with just the name of the device.
6. The app takes a long time to locate my devices (eg. when I return home and want to use the app to turn on my music).
I will be reporting these issues to Naim but happy to get everyone's input here as well.
Thanks!
Richard, I lost several hundred albums after update despite turning on and off etc. It may be a coincidence but I turned off my iPad and core and they then reappeared.

The Core does do a rescan after updating and if you have a lot of albums this can take many minutes for them all to show up.
Also, restarting the app is often a successful first line of defence with strange occurances in the version 5.0 onwards of the app. I don't normally find the need to restart the idevice, but I often have to restart the app.

Hmm...great advice. Will do a "when in doubt reset" on the Core when I get home and also turn off my ipad (as opposed to just exiting the application)!
Will post a response here after I do it
So I tried turning off the Core (even unplugging the mains) and ipad. It didn't work. In fact I now noticed that I can't create new playlists. It keeps prompting me that a playlist already exist (even when I use new names for a playlist). It's all very frustrating and I am tempted to just return the Core!
Richard, first, just try giving Naim support a call...

I guess I could do that...even though I live in Singapore...
OK, if a call is out of the question then drop them an email.

Re (4), I thought that playlists could only consist of songs, not albums?

I'd imagine there could be a Skype option?

Richard (M) - When I use the term album, what I mean is to include all the songs in the albums, so you can actually add the entire album at one go.

Hi Richard,
I see you say you can't create a new playlist but can you see any existing playlists?
If you can and you load an existing playlist then are all the tracks available?
If you go to the app and select the core then go to "Settings" -> "Manage Music" -> "Configure Music Stores" -> "View Store" then is your correct music store showing?

The store is configured correctly and my music will come up say if you search by artist or album and so on. But I had created several playlists it they were populated with hundreds of songs. After the update, the songs were no longer in the playlist but still in the store. All I see is an empty playlist and as I outlined above, I now even have trouble creating new playlists. What I have noticed later on is that say I create a playlist called "new". The first thing that happens is that nothing happens. Then after about 10-15s, I will get a notification that it playlist already exists and I cannot create it. Later if I exit the Naim app and return to the source in question I will see my playlist "new" created BUT it will not allow me to store songs in it. No matter how many times I try.

Phil,
It must be your presence because after I read your postings above, I tried to use the app and it works fine now. Now it makes me wonder if it was because the Core was doing indexing all this time? I don't have that large a store, just 2plus TB.
Hi all, I wanted to just close off the topic here. So it looks like everything is working fine now (other than some niggling issues). I am not sure what happened earlier but based on the fact that issues appear to be time limited, I can only speculate that the issues were caused by the fact that the Core was indexing? Anyways, just wanted everyone to know.
Thanks for all the comments and suggestions!
It would help if the app was able to detect that the core was indexing and display a message or prevent the user from browsing until after the indexing had completed.

Exactly what I was thinking.

This has been raised internally...
