No rooms found - again ...
Posted by: Dozey on 14 March 2017
Since my iPad updated its operating system I can't use the naim IOS app anymore - it can't see my NDS.
Anybody know how to fix this?
My android tablet still works fine. I have rebooted everything (modem/router, unitiserve, NDS) and reinstalled the naim app on the ipad to little effect.
Thanks.
You have a choice...
1 Get Apple to fix the OS.
2 Only ever use Apple products in your home
3 Don't use any Apple products in your home
What is the iOS revision number, as you say you've reinstalled the Naim app, is it the new rev5.5 (released yesterday)
Have you tried deleting the app then power cycling the iPad then reinstalled so it engages the 'Find My Rooms' feature without any previous links. ????
To Huge's post, not sure what he means about exclusive (or not) Apple, I have iPad & Android phone with Naim apps, they work just fine providing I don't try to use both at the same time.
Thanks Mike. It is not the 5.5 - I didn't know a new version was released. I will try installing that as a first step tonight.
I also did not know about the power cycling trick.

So we have no idea of:
a) which ipad it is
b) running which iOS version
c) running which naim app version
Naim support are good, but mind reading is tough...
As has been pointed out previously by other posters, can you let us know:
1) What iOS device you are using, revision and model.
2) What version of iOS are you using.
3) What version of the app you are using.
4) also which version of firmware are you running on your NDS? If you are not on 4.4 then you should make sure that you update your NDS to 4.4 firmware too.
If your Android tablet is still seeing the NDS but your iOS device isn't then it would tend to point towards the iOS device itself but if we can work the problem through then we should be able to find a resolution.

I will get back with the details when I am back in the listening room tonight. I can confirm it is an ipad mini 2.
The NDS firmware I updated about 15 months ago to get Tidal, and as far as I am aware there has not been a revision since.
I might need help with knowing where to find the information required, especially the IOS version. I don't keep this information in my head and can find it difficult to navigate as I only use the ipad for the naim app.
Thanks for your patience.
iOS version can be found in the iOS devices "Settings" -> "General" -> "About" page.
If you are getting TIDAL then you must be on 4.4.0 but you can confirm in the Naim app "Settings" -> "About" page.

Sometimes restarting your NDS would help.
I've been having this problem for weeks. iPad Air , 10.2.1 and NDS on 4.4
Thanks to the delete, power cycle and reinstall post from Mike, above, It seems to be working again as it should. Big relief! These things can challenge your sanity at times.
I even went so far as to buy a cheap android device to see if it would get around the problem, but that was never going to be a satisfactory solution for me. The android app seems to lack the album lookup function, but maybe I'm just not familiar with it?
Ok it is ios 10.2.1. I dont kniw how to get to settings in the naim app.
Deleted naim, power cycled, then reinstalled naim app. Still no rooms found.

Open the app 'home page' and tap the cog icon top right.

Maybe 10.2.1 is not suitable for an ipad mini 2?
No cog on home page. There is just a welcome page with the option of setup new product or find my rooms at the bottom.
Have you rebooted the router?
G
Not today. And android control point works fine.

You will only be able to get to the "Settings" page if you can connect to a device which - obviously - you can't however you can also get the firmware version using the streamers IR remote to go to the Tools menu (the button with the spanner on it) and then "Factory Settings" -> "System Status" -> "Version" (it's towards the end of the list and should start with "3." or "4.")...

Found it! It is version 4.4.00.
I don't know if this will help, but Phil may be interested.
I was frequently getting the no rooms found message on the app. Sometimes first thing in the morning when 272 had not been in use, but also sometimes when the 272 was actually happily playing an iRadio station. I had occasional drop outs, but not many. It was difficult to work out what was wrong, everything pointed to the idevice, app, or Wi Fi. Everything was up to date, and I tried all on/off restarts etc., but they didn't work. This issue was at its worst when the first version of the current app was launched. I was thrown off the sent by the 272 apparently being ok as it played iRadio, virtually all day long.
I can now report that after over a month of virtually faultless working of 272 and streamer, the problem was solved by fitting the 272 with a high gain antenna. Obviously the app updates in that time have also smoothed other issues, but I'm pretty sure the aerial was the issue.
personally I think the high gain antennas should be standard with each streamer, and not something you have to get hold of later.
hope this helps.

Interesting info ... The high gain antenna fixing an issue is a bit of an odd one as it doesn't generally fix something - it just tends to shift an issue so you might not notice it any more but it doesn't actually fix it.
The high gain antenna itself is a perfect example of "you don't get something for nothing" - Effectively the dispersion of a standard WiFi antenna can be visualized as a toroid (doughnut) with the centre of the toroid being the antenna ... the high gain antenna simple "flattens" the toroid making it wider but flatter so as much as it can help and improve reception it can also make things worse so it's generally not a good thing to include it in the box rather than the standard one.
The difference between the standard antenna and the high gain one is quite marginal in the real world so on the whole if an issue is resolved by using the high gain antenna then it's also quite likely that it wouldn't take much of a change in external RF or local environment to trigger the issue again ... just be aware that you might have to take future steps to properly resolve it.
Cheers
Phil
Ok, so I have provided all the details. Anybody got any suggestions?
I expect Phil will pickup, but in the meantime, just to show you aren't alone, if Apple keys you install IOS10.2.1 on your iPad then that isn't itself the issue. It should work.
if it were me, I would delete the app from my iPad, restart the iPad, reinstall the app. You should get the start page with find my rooms and you should try pressing that. It should gind your streamer immediately. But you can also try setting up a new product, which is of course your existing streamer.

Thanks David. I have tried reinstalling the app twice. It didn't help. I will wait to see if Phil suggests setting up a new product. The menu doesn't give an NDS as an option, however.
I hadn't tried doing it so I didn't know the menu options were so limited, but I see that now. My own ecperience is that the app finds new streamers without needing to be set up.
it would be interesting to try another idevice. Do you have a friend who has an iPhone or iPad they could bring round to yours?
Naim check the app against the latest IOS versions and betas so 10.2.1 isn't a problem per se.

@Phil, many thanks for reply. You're quite right, it could certainly mask an issue and there were quite a few other app updates around this time as well. I have hesitated mentioning this until it had been working for a reasonable time, which it has been now. So I thought it could be worth a try for someone who has tried the other 'fixes'.
Regards.
