Certainly things would have sounded very different without Chuck Berry. And Back to the Future would have lost one of its funnier moments.

I hope the long distance operator looks after him well.

Great guitarist.   One of the best songwriters ever.  Lyrics up there with Dylan, McCartney,  and Hoagy Carmichael.

Chuck was incredibly gifted as a musician and tunesmith. His lyrics are equally entertaining as his music, always delivered with great rhythm and drive. He was also a master of variation on a theme, with signature guitar riffs recognizable throughout his catalog. In fact, he was probably the primary influence on the opening guitar hook common in rock songs to follow.

The greatest tribute I can give to Chuck is to say that any of his songs always manage get my to tapping and put a smile on my face for the clever lyrics.

Sad to hear this news, thank you for the music.

He was a cornerstone of rock and roll, defining so much of what came after.

RIP Chuck.

Great musician, but not a great man...

Chuck provided the soundtrack to my teenage years, in fact the first concert I can remember going to was to see him at Glasgow Odeon at the tender age of 14.

Such an influence on so many other musicians who followed, a true originator.

Here's a good read which deals with the "behind the headlines" story of his life.

Sweet little rock 'n roller.

Love 'Havana Moon'....

The Chess Box will be having a few spins this week. Would that we could all live to that age and be as active. His achievements need no embellishment. The joy and inspiration is too great to measure. Technically he'll never die.

Saw Chuck Berry in Wolverhampton 25 years ago, on the way to the gig wondering how many songs we would know. He was on great form and we knew every song. There was an amazing moment when there was trouble with the sound , so while it was being fixed Chuck told us a story, seemingly off the cuff , amusing and very special.

RIP Chuck rock n roll forever
