Non DR better or SN2 still warming up?

I got my second hand SN2 5 days ago. When first connected I thought my speakers was damaged. I had a mishap with the AV input upon powering on.

Speakers sounded at first tame with little dynamics. This has improved during the past days, but after 4-5 days I still lack some details compared to the SN1. The treble details is better, but the lower mid-range details is a little hidden by heavier bass than the SN1.

I had similar experience with connecting a HiCap DR to my SN1.

Could it be that the SN2 and SN1 + HiCap plays deeper then SN1 bare and this new dept doesn't go well with my room? Or is the SN2 going to clear up more.

My second hand SN2 was in transit for a week before I connected it.

In my opinion:

1. I wouldnt be that worried about the mishap on AV regarding amp. Just an awful amount of noise for a while. Hopefully your tweeters are not damaged.

2. When I auditioned an SN2, it was very similar to SN1 + Hicap DR.

3. I would start tweaking the speaker position.

4. Transit really cools down the amp, it might indeed take quite a while before it is completely warmed up again. On my SN1, when I switch it off for e.g. holidays, it takes some days to be really on song - and this is only about 10 degrees diference.

Have not much time to reply, but what speakers do you have?

I'd give it some time to let the SN2 settle down and let you get used to it, then maybe tweak things like speaker position etc.

A good Naim friend of mine prefers SN1 to SN2, so it's not impossible that you are the same. I would let the SN2 warm up more. Is it connected to your HC-DR? If so, what's it like without it?

Rather than ask about your speakers, I will ask about your source(s).

It's unlikely to change much after four days, given that it's secondhand.

I sold my HC so it's bare. I use nDAC as a source and the cables are grey din and NacA5. Speakers are Spendor D7 and the room is appr. 4x4 meters.

The first time I heard the Spendor D7's was with a SN2, with a CDX2, and the thing that stood out for me was the level of detail, so much so that I really was looking seriously into buying the speakers, they had impressed me so much. They were actually on the verge of being overly bright.

My opinion would be that something is not right, your description of the SN2 and or the speakers is at the complete opposite impression of mine after hearing that combination.

The speakers could have been damaged after receiving the maximum volume from the amp. I would seriously check their condition.

My experience was very different from yours but then again, my update path was slightly different also. I first had SN1 + HC2, then SN1 + HCDR and then I swapped the SN1 to SN2 with HCDR always plugged in. Now SN2 + HCDR is from another world compared to SN1 + HCDR. More dynamic, faster, more detailed and refined presentation. SN1 sounded dull, muffled and flat in comparison.

I bought my SN2 new when it was released and I did notice huge differences during the burn in process though. It took around 400-500 hours for it to finally settle in. I even regretted my decision first because first sounds from a new unit were so hifi and overly detailed and harsh. But the burn in was for real with SN2. Your unit is used though so shouldn't be about burn in.

Thank you for your responses and advice. My setup is detailed and crisp down to lower midrange. From there it is a little undefined. It's as if the low frequency volume is higher now with the SN2 vs SN1. More dominant in the total picture.

I find a little unlikely that the bass-drivers on both sides has been damaged in the same way. Specially since the discants seems ok.

Could it be that the SN1 was more withdrawn with low frequencies and this was more adjusted to my room?

I will borrow a HiLine this week to see if that can help.

Square rooms have contributed to problems in the past.

Fixed it! I don't know how, but the details is back. Took down the system and moved it, while speakers left untouched. Put it together the same way, but changed the order of the mains.

Then i started playing and moved the volume higher than before and left it for a while. Thought it sounded much clearer than on low volume. When I turned it down the details in midrange / bass was there!!! Don't know what was the reason, but leaving it as it is now.
