hi

a friend of mine has suggested Robert Cray as a new artist to look into.

I do like guitar based artists so wondered if there are any fans here and could you suggest particular albums to buy?

many thanks peeps.

I went to college in Oregon in the late 70s-1980. He lived in nearby Washington and would play for us regularly. He was great live, much better live than recorded. At the time, all of his originals seemed to be about cheating on his wife.

Last time I saw him, he opened for Buddy Guy and Junior Wells at a place in San Francisco. Buddy and Junior showed up very late, and they could barely hold each other up. Robert babysat them through their set.

In the late 70s, there was a regional group of clubs in California, Washington and Oregon that had a steady rotation of bands coming through every few months.  Spokane WA had a place in downtown called Washboard Willies and I saw the Cray band there numerous times, with Curtis Salgado on vocals and harmonica, for a $5.00 cover charge.  Good music.

To answer your actual question, the only album I have of his is "Showdown" and it's great. His original contribution is about cheating on his wife....

I have Strong Persuader, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, and Midnight Stroll, and they're all great.

All the songs on these albums seem to be about cheating on his wife, except the songs about his wife cheating on him.
