which cable for XLR balanced (external dac) to DIN or RCA?

Posted by: Manu68 on 24 March 2017

HI,

what is the best way to connect my external DAC with XLR balanced output to my nac 272 preamp?

XLR to DIN 5 or XLR to RCA (if it matters anyway)?

and which cable would you recommend that is good value for money?

thanks

I believe you should use the dac's unbalanced output as the 272 does not have balanced inputs. So phono or din.

Use the DIN input on the 272, however as HH says use an unbalanced output from the DAC if it has one (if not you'll need a specially made cable).

Good value for money would be to get someone to make a cable from Mogami W2549 (or Canare L4-E6S).

For best value look for a second-hand Chord Chrysalis RCA-DIN5 interconnect - ideal for Naim and not expensive. There are usually plenty around in the usual places.

Currently, one is available... in Denmark. OK, its DIN4, not DIN5 - not insurmountable. Price might not be considered best value, though.

[@mention:69426746497974136] - When new, Chord Chrysalis cables cost around GB£30 to £40. Its seems that since then, they have attained some sort of 'mythological' status....!! With associated prices.

Flashback Sales will make you exactly what you want if you can't find any in the usual places. Dave is very helpful and quality is first class.

would going to higher end cables from Chord such as Shawnline significantly change HQ or was it so that the Chord Chrysalis deemed best value for money?

Really ? - i'll have to look through my 'better keep it, it may come in handy one day' cable box. I'm sure i've got one back from the days when Chord cables looked hand made
