Calexit, Russia and Nigel Farage

Posted by: Hmack on 29 March 2017

It now appears that Nigel Farage and his buddy & political donor Arron Banks have been hired to promote an effort to split California in two and potentially gain Independence from the US.

I almost couldn't believe this when I saw a report on this on TV in the US (it's not quite April Fools' day yet), but it appears to be true. He's now being shown up for the self serving money grabbing opportunist many of us believed he was from the outset.

Even more outrageous that the person who runs the campaign for Californian Independence is a Russian based in Moscow. The world is going mad!

It also appears that Nigel Farage has this week expressed his admiration of Vladimir Putin on State owned Russian TV, and has been offered his own TV show on Russian television. Couple this with the fact that Marine le Pen has also met with Putin this week and expressed her own admiration for Putin. Her party has apparently received loans from Russia to help fight her election campaign in France.

Just how much influence or backing was provided by Russia for the UKIP part and the Brexit campaign?

The World has gone well and truly mad!

Would any of Farage's admirers care to comment?

This just cannot be true, can it?

We should all sign a petition that Nigel Farage must be on the next series of " I'm a Celebrity, Get me Out of Here ".   Then everyday watch him get nominated to eat live spiders and wombat arseholes.

A twist of fate will let him win and become the king of the Jungle. But as he walks across the end bridge, there's a fireworks malfunction that puts a flaming end to him - live on telly and on the front page of all the worlds newspapers the next day.

Well YNWA250505,

I never cease to be impressed by your replies on this and other threads. Your wit, verbosity and capacity for intellectual debate and argument are intimidating to those of us with a different view of the world to your own.

I particularly thought that the inclusion of an extra 'n' in the word yawn (11 instead of 10 the last time round) was particularly witty and biting.

Well done!

Hmack, nothing surprises me wrt politics these days. I find your report hard to believe, unlikely that Farage will succeed etc etc, but not impossible.

Interesting ? yes. Justifying 11 x "n" in "yawn" ? no. Not even the word "yawn", even from somebody with a somewhat limited vocabulary !

Saw a couple of non-descript articles on this yesterday but nothing today. Maybe fake news? But Don that doesn't mean we have forgotten about you on this side of the pond. At the Senate Intelligence Committee meeting today, during a discussion on the subject of Russian interference in our election, information was presented suggesting the Russians may have also interfered in the Brexit referendum.

You can not make this stuff up!

I guess that this story could well be an example of disinformation being spread by Russia to muddy the waters. If this story is taken up and found not to be true then it casts doubt on other accusations made against Putin or Donald Trump.  It is just too crazy to be true - surely.

However, the bit about Marine le Pen meeting Vladimir Putin and the funding of her party by Russia is absolutely true. The suggestion that Farage has regularly appeared on pro Putin Russian State television is surely easily verifiable, I guess we just have to wait and see.

Initial reports seem to suggest that the Russian hacking was more widespread than previously suspected, and that less Putin friendly Republican candidates were specifically targeted. Senator Marco Rubio has indicated that his support staff were targeted during the Republican leadership campaign, and afterwards. The latest hack attempt (originating from Russia) taking place just yesterday.

 More to come, no doubt!

YNWA250505 - It's way past your bedtime. You shouldn't be reading this!

Clay, is there any more on this/a good place to find the appropriate bit of the hearing? I had a quick look and couldn't see anything with any substance. Not doubting you, I rather suspect the lack of coverage is down to news 'curation'. Would like to see what was said.

Dave

I heard this in passing in a clip broadcast I believe on CBS. Took me awhile to track it down as Brexit is not given the attention it should over here because of our own problems. But I did find one reference. Go to www.intelligence.senate.gov/hearings. There will be a listing of opening statements. Click on the opening statement for Clint Watts and a couple pages in you'll see a brief reference. I recall hearing one other. I think we'll hear more as the hearings develop.

Read the whole statement as Mr. Watt's comments really got everyone's attention. This is going to get much bigger over here.
