Display issue

I notice the forum topic 'Display problems' is closed, but it is still a problem. I have been a Naim customer since the early 80's and have regarded Naim as the Rolls Royce of audio equipment. With the high purchase price they charge I expect the product to be long lasting, of high quality and expect the company to stand behind their product.

Obviously the new operators of the company are not of the same dedication to quality that the founder Julian Vereker was. I'm sure if he was still around he would stand by his product and realise their is a problem with the displays they were using and fix them at minimum cost to the customer. Unfortunately the money worshippers are in charge of most large company's in these times.

My NDX media player's display recently showed gobbly gook before giving up the display, luckily with the Naim app on my iPad I'm still able to access my music. However if I need to change settings I need to use the display on the unit, unless they can incorporate the hardware settings into the app, which would negate the need to use the unit's display.

This is not good enough from a company that until recently was a highly regarded company. In fact maybe a class action is appropriate if these present operators continue to disregard the standing of a once high quality audio equipment manufacturer, and look after their customers.

A couple of cynical thoughts; welcome to the 21st century, just because you've been a Naim owner since the early-80 doesn't garner you any special service rights, and this ain't Julian's Naim.

That said, I agree the display issue is pretty piss poor considering the money you spent. Would have me readjusting my thoughts on present Naim as well.

Doesn't naim have a five year warranty? How old is your unit? Have you spoken to the factory service department?

oh and electronics breaks. It did when jv was around.

I had a very similar thread recently....

The display of my NDX gets used for about six minutes each day. So mine failed at 100 hours which seems ridiculous.

Have you worked with your dealer or contacted Naim directly? Is your unit still under warranty? If out of warranty have Naim given you an estimate for repair? It might be frustrating that the display has failed but these things happen. We need to know more before passing judgement either way.

Kennt, I'm not quite sure who "these present operators" are that you speak of - as far as I'm aware the vast majority of the good people at Naim are the same ones who were there back in my day, and many even long before that. While much has changed, what is most surprising, and rather heartening in this day and age, is just how much remains the same.  Certainly Naim's commitment to performance first and customer service are still top priority.

Anyway, I'm sorry you have an issue with the display on your NDX.  I would suggest you get in touch with your supplying dealer who can arrange with Naim to have it repaired.

Not me. There have been several topics on this very issue.

GUILTY!

However it gets resolved, the display has a track record of sub-par longevity. As I recall, the replacements are the same screen device and users are warned to limit use; e.g., not to continuously display the time.

And to make it worse, apparently to replace the display involves a complete disassembly of the NDX.

My NDS display failed and was replaced quickly and at no cost. I would have preferred it did not happen but I can't fault the after sales service.

I've had a faulty CDX2, XPS2, NDS, HDX and 552. And yet I still keep buying the stuff. What a mug! They must have seen me coming
