You might get more response when posting this in the Hi-Fi Corner or Streaming Audio section.

I'd say put the PL on any box you want. Listen for a week or so to become familiar with the sound. Then try the PL on box two and repeat. Then box three and you tell us where it sounded best. I won't dispute your findings. Be careful, in the process you might find a second PL is warranted .

Why an XP5? For the DAC or ND5? Anyhoo probably put it on the DAC

Wherever it sounds best. Not hard to try out the alternatives. For me it worked everywhere but was best on power supplies.

Yes indeed in principle on the power supply to the analog circuits. Make sure that XP5 is hooked on nDAC, and the latter on ND5.

the greatest benefit would be on a power supply, which feeds the analogue circuitry of the nDAC.

No.  I have a different take.

Best place for the first fancy power cord is the cable from the wall to the power distribution board that feeds your whole system so the benefits can be shared equally.  If you don't have a power distribution strip with a detachable cord then get one because those garden variety units are a hinderance.  The first power distribution board i bought was custom made for my local Naim dealer here is Australia.  I have since moved to a Quantum product but the more basic and cheaper custom unit was still a big step up from the department store variety.
