How does one turn off WiFi on a 272

Posted by: Huge on 09 April 2017

I know RTFM

I have done.

With a wired connection plugged in <Wireless Setup> is unavailable.  To make it available requires the cable to be unplugged and requires a power cycle.

Set <Wireless Setup> to 'Don't Use Wireless'.

Reconnect the wired connection and power cycle again.

Look at my WiFi signal monitor and Naim.a is still being broadcast.

So HOW do I turn off WiFi?

What does naim say?

My 272 is on Wifi at the moment, and I'll possibly have the same problem when switching back...

OK, I've found something else from the event logs, a DHCP problem - it may or may not be related; unfortunately investigation will have to wait for a while.

Huge .........  the correct F/W Version for 272 is 4.4.   I think 2.0.68 was a temporary rev. around the time Tidal was first released.

HUGE,  ignore my post (above) all a load of

I've just looked at my Naim webpage & see Firmware Version:  2.0.73.14095.  A bit confusing,  this is a beta that I knew as 4.4.72 that I loaded last week & it looks like the Naim webpage shows a different Firmware number,  the NDX display & the app 'Settings>About' both show what I expect it to be,  4.4.72,  however the 3D APP line shows the same  '14095' build number as the Naim webpage.

Whatever,  despite all this your 272 should have 4.4,  which I expect you have anyway.

Fitting the antennae made no difference, the last test I can now do is to turn off the 272 when I'm not using it.

If it isn't that, then it's an incredibly powerful 2.4GHz outside source... one intense enough to saturate a wireless mouse receiver inside a stone built house (I tried 4 different ones, so it isn't the receiver, and with no receiver, the computer doesn't wake); so I'm going to have to report a serious interference event (i.e. one that may be at an intensity level detrimental to health).

The obvious thing to try is turning off the 272!

I really doubt that the wireless board in a 272 is powerful enough to generate a signal that is a health hazard, even if it were faulty. Anyway I will follow your next test with interest.

David,

I'm saying that if it's NOT the 272, then the signal must be coming from some distance away and getting through small windows (600mm stone is impervious to 2.4GHz).  Something powerful enough to set up a field like that would mean it's potentially dangerous to be near to the source (whatever that might be).

The other niggle is that the effect is intermittent (wrapping the wireless receiver in aluminium foil and adding a ferrite has reduced the frequency of occurrence from 3 to 12 times a day down to 0 to 3 times per day) but it's still completely random which makes testing a drawn out affair (the latter part of "Lies, damn lies, and statistics.").

I'm not (yet) paranoid enough to think that someone's deliberately directing a narrow beam antenna at my house with malicious intent!

Are you able to borrow a portable spectrum analyser and suitable antenna to go and sniff around a bit to see what the general RF environment is around your house Huge ?

Yes OK I understand. I suspect that it will turn out to be an obscure fault in your 272 because you should be able to shut off the wireless, especially with a factory reset.  But it is odd all the same.  Maybe take off the foil and ferrite ring, confirm the interference is back, then turn off the 272 for 24 hours.....

good luck

Hi James, Unfortunately, no (I no longer have access to such tools).

David, Yes removing the foil increased the frequency of occurrence.  Turning off the 272 for a full 24 hours would be bad for my health (I can only risk it at night)!

Huge, have you contacted Naim about this?

I accidentally spilled a can of Coca Cola on mine and that seemed to shut off the WiFi feature.
