hi cap blowing plug fuses when connected to 112x
Posted by: ndx202- on 13 April 2017
Can I get some clarification or can someone give me the sockets to plug in to..
Thanks
Have you looked in the manual? Perhaps you could explain exactly how you have connected everything together.
Please clarify how it is connected. Do you have the power amp connected to the pre-amp or to the Hicap (it should be connected to the pre-out on the Hicap)? Are you using a genuine Naim SNAIC5?
yesusing a geuine part... from socet 4 to pe amp and it is blowing plug fuse in Hi cap
the hi cap powers up but socket 4 to the 112x pe seems to blow fuse on hi cap >?????
Are you using the correct value and brand of fuse ?
Does the fuse still blow with nothing connected to the Hi-Cap ?
Is the SNAIC new or old? Can you check it? Can you try another? Are you connecting to the correct socket on the NAC112x? - i.e. To Upgrade and not the AUX2 socket.
Its ok Richard as usual the Naim customer service team have sorted this for me ..it sounds amazing Thanks for your help everyone
Good news. What was the problem?
Nac 82 connected ti hicap and nap150x for the time being...What would be a good power amp upgrade ??? Really does have much more texture than the nac 112x everything is much much better...
It was my fault ' just was not reading the manual correctly.. Replaced 5 amp fuse link1 /ps/1 pre to socket 4 pre or snaxo on hicap then out of hi cap socket 3 to amp into power amp.. Everyting working fine now Richard again thanks for all the help
First impressions coming fron a nac112x flatcap2x nap150x to nac82 pre hicap and the same 150x power amp for the time being ' the music is much more natural and textured..
Twin mono power ampliers will be the next upgrade when funds allow and obviously another hi cap to power the other amp..
I will post a photo when I can work out how to post a picture on this site
Good news that all is back on track again.
If you do go for 135 mono amps though I don't see why you would need another Hicap. The Hicap powers the preamp not the power amps. Although it is possible to use two Hicaps to power the 82. Not worth it IMO.

Agree with Mark's comment. I've been running 82 HICAP 2*135 since 1993. I did try 82 with twin HICAP, but wasn't convinced it was a significant improvement, to be honest back then I don't think I heard any improvement. I did try a Supercap, that was a big improvement, but I realised that I was very happy with the sound I had from the system and didn't bother, just bought more and more music instead.

Will one flatcap give signal to two 135' s then Cheers
Thanks I got Hi cap sockets mixed up and was sending power rather than signal...got mixed up did not read the manual...Hence blowing Hi cap plug fuse I think ..Thanks everyone the sound is lovely just as said in previous comments more of everything. Just need maybe a nap 180 ( serviced ) next as the 150x ' which works fine looks very different..
Thanks everyone
Try to get a serviced Olive 250, which will match the 82 perfectly. A 180 won't be significantly better than a 150.

good point Hungry Halibut...I will see what is on the second hand naim serviced or A1 Serviced market..Maybe Tom Tom can help..
Why cant I copy and paste images to the site ???
The FAQ tells you how to show images on the forum.
I think a HiCap is overkill on a 112x, a better preamp is where i would have spent the cash. I used to have a 112x/150/flatcap. A lovely sound! I had it for a few years and was quite happy. I then got a 202 preamp, and was told not to power it from the 150, so i splashed out on a 200. A lovely combination
Now to save up for those extra power supplies!!
Nice place to be. 202/200 doesn't get the love it deserves here IMO. Do you have a NAPSC on the 202? That's a worthwhile addition that doesn't break the bank.

Yes I know own a serviced set of amps ' they are nac82 ' nap182 and hicap...Splashed out ..Will post photos when I work out how to ..Just waiting for the power amp to come back from servicing...
Well nac 180 back from Darren at Class A just leaving to warm up for a few days with the nac 82 ' hi cap .. Gotta say it is a lovely sound detailed ' fluid ' full and lovely bass response..Out of the box..
Just had my mains sorted as there was significant DC leakage from appliances that have op amps ' non linerar and dont like transformers.. I was getting a varying output of transformer hum depending on time of day and appliances..Anyway sorted now as spark has done his job with a fancy mains purifier at the supply box.. Not cheap but has silenced everything..
Very Very pleased with the sound will upload some photos from my phone when I work out how to do it..
sorry nap not nac
