Pink Floyd Tornado

Whilst casually listening to a PF song on the radio at work today, a colleague piped up and said 'oh I met PF in the eighties'.

He then regaled us of the time he went to the Toronto Air Show to support a single Tornado aircraft whilst he was in the RAF.

Anyway the aircraft developed a problem which necessitated a full power engine run. Mindful of the extreme noise they would cause on a civilian airfield, they were told to move the aircraft to behind a large remote hangar and do it there. Whilst carrying out the run, the airfield Maintenance Manager came over - they presumed to make a complaint.

Instead he told them that the hangar was in fact being used by PF as a rehearsal venue prior to setting out on a world tour and the band were interested in the aircraft and would like to meet the British lads responsible for the maintenance. Dave Gilmour was really interested and ended up sitting in the aircraft etc.

That night he sent a limousine loaded with beer to pick them up and take them to the Hangar where they were treated to a private rehersal of the PF World Tour concert.

Good story. I actually thought it was going to be about the shrimp, and that Tornado was a nick-name for that kind of shrimp. Just a different kind of sonic boom I guess.
