Naim DAC V1: DEAD after firmware update. No Power going to board. BRICKED

Posted by: BPalmer on 13 April 2017

Hello Naim Users. I'm a long time Naim loyalist and I purchased a used Naim DAC v1 in mint condition from a friend locally.

The unit was working perfectly for a week until.... I did a firmware update and the unit continuously hung up at "wait 10 seconds for unit to restart" then I turned the unit off and then back on and now it will not function in any way whatsoever.

I did get confirm that the board and the board does receive power from the power supply and to the board. I have tried all of the known tricks like holding down USB and button 4.

Has anyone experienced this and if so is there any solution or steps to take to wake this thing back up. I'm working on the assumption that this is locked up by software.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or thoughts.

I take it that you are getting power to the board (thread title says  'no power..') and you followed the update instructions?

You may want to turn the DAC on while holding 1&3 down to 'force' the old DSP. If you can get the unit working again:

Before attempting to upgrade the f/w make sure you pass the 24/44.1 bit perfect test! If possible set your playback software to this output and to play just a single track (i.e. stop after the track ends) before running the f/w file.

Brian, did you follow the update instructions exactly?  Failure to do so risks an update failure. The unit then needs to go to a dealer or back to Naim to reset the firmware.

You should try to "force" the Dsp, as Brillant points out above. Otherwise it looks like it will have to go to a Naim dealer.
