Add RCA inputs to Qute
Posted by: Brubacca on 14 April 2017
I am looking to add additional RCA (Analog) Inputs to my Qute. Is there a Naim approved way of adding a few RCA inputs to the Qute? Are there any RCA switchers that don't degrade the sound?
Well, anything you add will in some way degrade sound performance; the key is to keep any degradation to a minimum. QED would be my choice for input expansion. The older units form the '80s and early '90s were very good passive switches - nicely made, well soldered.
Of the current options it may be worth looking at Beresford and their TC-7240 switch box.
I use an old Adcom pre in an analogous way. The switching is all mechanical, so it works completely powered off, as a pass-through device. GFP-555ii; nice phono pre on board, too!

Great idea. Qute has HT bypass. Maybe I can find a really good old Pre-amped I can't find a relay switched unit like you are using.
How many inputs do you need? Rather than adding another largish, non matching box, I would consider a different box that had the inputs I needed. For example, a Uniti has 4 analogue inputs. With replacement models on the horizon, you might find one for a decent price.
Unfortunately moving up the Uniti chain is just not something I can afford to do at this time. Personally I'd like to get a Nac-N 172XS and a NAP 200, that's like a $7,000 upgrade here is the USA.
It would be closer to my budget to get a preloved Nait 5i or older NAC and Flatcap.
With the HT bypass on the Qute I could just get a proper Pre. Alternatively I could use the AMP out on the Qute and the HT bypass on the Nait.
I like to sell gear off as I always regret it. I'd eventually like to use the Qute in my office.
