End of a era (literally)

Just read the news that Emma Murano, an Italian woman who was the oldest person in the world, died today aged 117 years 137 days.

She was not only the oldest person, she was also - as far as anyone knows - the very last person left alive to have been ben born in the 19th century. So, a living link with the past has been severed.

Quite sobering stuff, really.

The lady had a fairly remarkable life:

Very sad. I wonder what music she enjoyed? The things she must have seen makes the mind boggle particularly in the last 20 years.

Puts things in perspective - too much bass..... Etc

Interesting response to the death of a person that lived 117 years. Maybe if she'd lived half as long I'd start to consider it sad. To me hers must have been an incredible life lived and she appeared to have her wits until the end.

Indeed,  sad in as much its the end of an era,  but its celebrations for 117 years & believe me to have her 'wits' enough to hold a conversation until the end is a blessing.   I'm going through the end of life with my mother, we 'lost' her a few years ago with dementia & to have had a conversation over these last 3 years would have been priceless.   But mum is 95 (1921) & compared to 117 (1899) makes you appreciate the great age of this lady.

Amazing - No fruit or vegetables either! I've been listening to Violet Brown's birthday documentary on the world service this past week too.
