Supernait2 with 2Qute

Posted by: 1GiantLeap on 17 April 2017

I am hoping someone can help me in my ignorance on electrical matters.

I have a SN2 connected to a Chord 2Qute (with Arcam cd player as transport). Speakers are PMC GB1i's.

From time to time, I get glitchy interruption, a brief drop out in the sound when I am listening to my system.  These happen when someone plugs/unplugs something into the mains but these also happen at other times too (when the central heating switches itself on or off possibly). The house is only 10 years old so wiring should not be problematic.  Will earthing the 2Qute or the SN2 help? I notice they each have the facility for being earthed.

I am sure people will tell me I need to install a separate electrical spur specially for the hifi but this is not an option.

Would a battery powered DAC remove this problem?

Thank you.

The SN is already earthed via its mains plug. You could try playing the Arcam straight into the SN to see if the issue in some way relates to the DAC.

Hi HH

Thanks, I have done that and it is the DAC which is causing the problem; I can plug and unplug other electrical items without any drop out. Do you think there is a fault with the DAC or that I need to connect an earthing cable?

Excellent. Not owning one of those dacs I'm not sure what to suggest next, but I think I recall someone running an earth either to a mains plug or to the back of the amplifier. It may have been Analogmusic, but again I'm not sure. At least you know know that it's fixable. Perhaps try a forum search.

Not much help really but I've had the 2Qute before and this isn't an issue I remember having in a computer-DAC-SN2 set up. I did also try connecting an Earth to the back of the 2Qute and this made no difference to the sound.

I have an issue with the SuperNait DAC when listening to the connected Sonos streamer on input 3. If the AT LP5 turntable is powered on the DAC's input is quiet for a second or so? That is also the case if there is a lot of electric static when the weather is dry for a longer period.
