Qobuz 24bit Sublime+ coming in May
Posted by: claptonuk on 17 April 2017
Looks like Qobuz will introduce a Sublime+ subscription in May 2017 which will allow streaming of approx. 60,000 albums in hi-res 24bit (not just albums purchased as with Sublime) . Since their takeover they seem to have stabilised and grown, expanding into more European countries with others planned.
Is this enough for Naim to finally consider supporting Qobuz? I am fed up with erratic 16bit Tidal and poor quality mp3 on Spotify and these offerings do not offer the best quality to match Naim's superb equipment.
I for one want the best quality and 24bit to me is a class apart. Not supporting Qobuz is now seriously undermining my faith in Naim and I've been a Naim advocate since 1985. I'm constantly told that I should consider Aurender but my loyalty is still holding firm.
Just looking at this, got email saying the same. I was on their beta for the Apps and a new iOS App is coming soon. I had a Sublime sub for 1 year but felt I wasn't getting enough out of it as the 24bit streaming could only be done from purchased music, perhaps this is now making the step to 24bit streaming of their entire catalogue? Seems that way.
350 GBP? It's 350 Euros in EU. They must be factoring in the Brexit!
No special offer for existing loyal subscribers though!
Definately ditching the NDX/nDAC now this is released - lack of hidef support. . It is Aurender for me going forward now i'm sad to say.

I queried this price phenomenon with Qobuz and asked pay in euros through paypal. They refused in a rather abrupt way!

All streaming services are priced this way in the UK. It's a rip off.

Its "only" streaming of about 90% of their current Hi Res catalogue, which is 70,000 titles, but still very worthwhile. I have been very pleased with my Qobuz subscription.

90% sounds like a lot, but that's only 90% of what they already have available in Hi-res, not 90% of their entire catalogue that is available in 16 bit.

How very rude of them. Maybe if you pretended you were Carla Bruni or something...?

Am I missing a trick here? I'm streaming Qobuz to an NDX using Kazoo. Would there be a problem there with hi-res streaming?
I just upgraded my subscription to Sublime+ and I am listening to their Sublime+ album ( a collection of songs and music under the same name) and I must say can feel the difference in quality
Curious that all the test tracks on the Sublime+ playlist are 24 bit but not any higher than 44.1kHz sampling. Why would they do this? Mohamed, since you've paid up, can you confirm that this doesn't apply to other stuff? I agree the Playlist sounds good.
Goon525 I'm currently playing Vivaldi concert per due violin at 24 bits/ 88.2 kHz
I also tried this album to see if it is 96khz and I can confirm it is
"Humanz (Deluxe) Gorillaz" Hi-Res 24-bit – 96.00 kHz
Thanks, Mohamed.

ClaptonUK, no offence intended. The point I was making is that this kind of price discrimination is very aggravating for Qobuz customers. One solution might be to acquire an address in another country, such as France. Unfortunately, after Brexit, this kind of disparity is going to get worse. Hence all of my English colleagues here are applying for German nationality. It is interesting to note that, at the current exchange rate, Naim products are being priced about 15% higher in mainland EU countries than in the UK.
I'm expecting an answer from Tidal. No doubt they are going the same way for high resulution.
If sublime+ is only a yearly based price I would not go this way. In a dynamic marked a yearly based agreement is not my way.
i'm currently listening to their Playlist Sublime+. Everything is find and their file in HR are a big improvement on my NDS

What software are you using to stream Sublime+ ?
Cheers
Enjoying the latest Diana Karl via Sublime+. Also had a listen to the Volodos Brahms album which is the new Gramophone disc of the month. It seems to work very well. Both these at 96/24, which seems to be the maximum I can get out of the Toslink from my Mac Mini into the SU. But I reckon that's good enough for now.
That posting might have been more successful if the ruddy iPad auto-corrector hadn't changed Diana Krall into Diana Karl!

Thanks for that info, unfortunately I am all ios so bubbleupnp is not an option for me presently.
Maybe I should invest in an Android tablet or at least loan one to see how well it does the job?
BubblesoftUPnP Server does work with iOS. There isn't a BubbleUPnP app for the iPad (or phone) but you can control it using either the Lumin or Kazoo apps. Lumin will only run on an iPad but Kazoo will run on iPad, iPhone and even MacOS desktop.
The only problem I have encountered is with a Synology NAS, where occasionally (maybe twice a day...) BubbleUPnP will stop running and has to be restarted. This is apparently due to the version of Java 8 (which Bubblesoft needs) that runs on the Synology NAS. I'm told (by Bubblesoft) that this problem doesn't exist anywhere else.
I run Qobuz Sublime in this manner. The Sublime+ playlist plays without problem as do my purchased and streamed hi-res files.
Sometimes I also run Qobuz or Tidal from a Sonos Connect, plugged into my ND5-XS. Unfortunately the hi-res files cannot be played in this manner, CD quality being the max for Sonos. But at least you don't get the annoying Tidal streaming interruptions that you do using a Naim streamer.
Actually Lumin does run on an iPhone but the UI isn't half as intuitive as Kazoo's.
Interesting. I run Bubbleupnp server on a Synology for Qobuz Sublime purposes and have never had to restart it. Not once. Ever.
Now of only the Naim app would support it...

Some of us are luckier than others, it seems. Which Synology NAS do you have?
