Qobuz 24bit Sublime+ coming in May

Posted by: claptonuk on 17 April 2017

Looks like Qobuz will introduce a Sublime+ subscription in May 2017 which will allow streaming of approx. 60,000 albums in hi-res 24bit (not just albums purchased as with Sublime) . Since their takeover they seem to have stabilised and grown, expanding into more European countries with others planned.

Is this enough for Naim to finally consider supporting Qobuz? I am fed up with erratic 16bit Tidal and poor quality mp3 on Spotify and these offerings do not offer the best quality to match Naim's superb equipment.

I for one want the best quality and 24bit to me is a class apart. Not supporting Qobuz is now seriously undermining my faith in Naim and I've been a Naim advocate since 1985. I'm constantly told that I should consider Aurender but my loyalty is still holding firm.

Mac users could use Audirvana Plus, Great sound quality and has integrated Qobus support.

Thanks so much for posting that - must test.

I have Audirvana + 2.x version, didn't upgrade to v. 3 when Qobuz desktop player for Mac came out, but I see Audirvana + 3.1 can play directly to DLNA/UpNP network players which could potentially solve my gapless playback issues - will test and report back!

Unfortunately it looks from the Audirvana site that perhaps only certain devices are supported.

I cannot seem to get the Atom to show up as an output device.

All I can say is that I have been using Audirvana Plus for the last 10 days with my Naim MuSo and I have never detected any dropouts etc, but I get at least 2 per hour using the Naim app.

Well that's really weird.

It was not showing at all yesterday.

I enabled server functionality on the Atom in case that was needed but no joy.

Earlier I unpowered, unplugged/reconnected Ethernet and restarted the Atom as well as Audirvana+, again no joy.

Now a few hours later I have gone to the App and the Atom is showing up.

Now to test.

Hmm, unfortunately seems gapless won't work in this manner either.  A real annoyance if the only way to do so is via USB or NAS - perhaps something could be tweaked in software on the Audirvana side.

Will need to test via Airplay from Apple Music - that may work gapless with SQ compromise.  I just hope Airplay 2 might allow HD audio as well as multiroom .

I'm currently trying Audirvana Plus with Qobuz sublime+, and to my ears it sound better than using Google Chromecast Audio that I have been using for more than a year now !. Two  caviates though; one it changes FLAC into Wav (and I am not sure if that matters) the more important one is that it needs my Mac on all the time which is impractical (I am using their Remote+ from the iPAd to control it )

for one My Naim Uniti2 shows the Song name and Bit rate on the screen as if I am plying from NAS , Happy Days

I tried a few things yesterday and thought they may have sounded better than via NAS or USB but need to do a better comparison when it's quieter at home!

Also, out of interest has anyone found Qobuz downloads are much slower than they were a few months ago - seems to take ages to download HD to my iPad.

I don't really like the version 4 app as much as version 3 - it seems more buggy, for example I often have issues with a stream starting via Chromecase and somehow end up with audio over Chromecast and coming from the phone.  Their search seems much worse too as though it's only searching for a few characters not all.

+1 Having discovered that Audirvarna Plus v3.1.4 "just works" with Mu-So. Although the Mu-So doesn't have a screen you can see the current track playing in the Naim App (which is slightly ironic). I've streamed Qobuz at up to 24/192 kHz from an iMac over Wi-Fi (Mu-So is wired).

From the screenshot below, it looks as though Audirvana is upscaling the original FLAC 16/44.1 kHz to 24 bits.
