Nac a5
Posted by: fathings cat on 22 April 2017
Hi all, what's the difference between Nac a4 and Nac a5? I thought I had a5 but now not so sure as a friend told me that A5 has some writing on the cable.
thanks
Gary
My black A5 has white print on the cable. "naim audio" (all lower-case) with a direction arrow. The cable is notably stiff.
When I had NACA4 many moons ago it had NAIM AUDIO A4 embossed in the separator web. The obvious difference is A4 has the feel of a normal flexible cable whereas A5 is noticeably stiff.
The print on NACA5 can wear off. The stiffness never does...

I thought that was only TQ Blue Diamond that had that attribute...

You shouldn't tempt me like that, I nearly made a reference (that would risk getting me banned) to a failed heart drug by Pfizer.
Oh d**m, I just did it!

Is that Sildenafil you had in mind Huge,
That's the one, blue and diamond shaped, and causes...
Someone wrote on this forum about NacA5: 'stiff as bamboo'.
It doesnt get more true than that.
How about what one of my patients said to me years ago: "Doc, my neck's stiffer than a 17 year old Amish boy at a strip club."
Took me a bit to recover from laughing (this guy was all about dry humor) before being able to continue with the examination.
That MIGHT be stiffer than NAC A5.
Thanks for replies, much appreciated. I suspect based on stiffness mine could be a4.
I have sold it so a little guiedence would be appreciated:
1) is a5 an upgrade on a4
2) what is a rough impact on its value on a cost per meter basis on the used market
my aim is to be fair to the chap buying it.
regards
Gary
Gary,
I've amended your post slightly.
yes, NACA5 is definitely a superior performing speaker cable. Unfortunately secondhand A4 sells for quite a lot less than secondhand A5.
Thanks Richard, that helps

Gary
Checking the current, new price of Linn K20 - a 'remarkably similar cable' to the defunct Naim A4 - its £5-00 per metre.
I conclude Naim A4 should sell, used, for a bit less than that - say £20 or £30 for 10 metres (thats two 5 metre runs)....?
