Nait 5si and Auralic Aries Mini

Posted by: Matrixman on 24 April 2017

Hi,

I'm planning to buy Auralic Aries Mini to stream Tidal. Wanted to know if I can get it connected to my 5si and if so how? New to this so looking for guidance. Auralic website doesn't give much info. Do I need to plug the L/R output of Aries into Naim 5si to stream Tidal?

You just need a standard interconnect, with 2 RCAs at the Aires end, and either the same RCA, or 5 pin DIN, at the amp end.

huge improvement with mini when you put external power supply on it  . lighting app is excellent too.  decent set of phono leads and you have a good system . run mini by fitting 2 tera internal drive

Thanks. Would you recommend a 16v  18v Sbooster or an 16v Ultra Sbooster or an 18v Sbooster?

Just got an email from Auralic that I can't plug it in 5si as it doesn't have digital inputs and Aries only has digital outputs. This is confusing

The Mini has analogue outputs for connecting to the 5Si- The Red and White phonos. The Yellow one is the digital output which you won't need to use.

The Aries only has digital outputs. The Aries Mini includes a DAC and has analogue outputs. Not confusing at all. Just connect it to the Nait with an appropriate wire, as explained previously.

If you have a decent DAC, maybe part of a CD player, you might achieve better sound quality running digital output to that rather than using the Aries' inbuilt DAC.

Ah this place!

Buy the bloody thing before thinking of adding power supppies and external DACs.

Judging from what I've read you will be pleasantly surprised.

Also the next firmware enables the Aeries as a Roon endpoint, which makes it a very easy way to integrate the colossus that is Roon into your system. Roon now  upsamples so this is likely to get more out of the internal DAC.

it seems like the Aeries mini is the inheritor of the Squeezeboxes crown.

Buy it and enjoy it.
