Any views on MCRU NO. 27 and NO.85 Mains Power Leads?

Posted by: Bob123 on 01 May 2017

Interested in the above cables for my Naim kit.

Read some posstive feedback. Have anyone here tried them, maybe even compared them with each other or different cables?

Please, I do not want this thread to lead to a debate about if mains cables make a difference or not. I hear clear differences in my system, but I have also noticed that some cables does more harm than good.

Cheers

Decent, well made cables (have had the No27). Dave is a decent chap to deal with and you should be able to return them if not happy.

Naim's Powerline Lite is very good, and the Powerline itself is better still. I've no idea about the MCRU leads.

I am happy to recommend

I have a 91se which i am very happy with. David is very helpfull, he will make up custom patterns as you require. Mine is a non standard length and has a right angled plug instead of straight.

Very helpfull and prompt service

The MCRU cables seem well made.

I do get a rash from text like 'developed for use with Naim'. There is nothing to 'develope', let alone for Naim, in a piece of Belden 19364 and two standard connectors. It has been used for power cords for decades and like many, I know this cable well. And like many, I made a lot of power cords with it in various configurations.

The Belden 19364 is a fine cable that (still) performs way above its price. Especially in leaner sounding systems/rooms as this cable usually delivers a rich and pleasant mid & upper bass. Looking at the No.27 - the Martin Kaiser/Schurter IEC connector is not the best sounding at all. A bit more expensive but still reasonably priced iEgo IEC connector (gold or rhodium plated) would give a serious hike in SQ. Although the black mesh sleeving looks nice, I have found that this Belden cable (like most cables) sounds best without extra sleeving added.

I can't comment on the No.85 other than that there is a lot of silver in there. Silver has a very distinctive sound that you either like or not (or it fits in your situation or not). Auditioning is a must for this one imo.

I have tried both in my system at length, initially they impressed me but ultimately I ended up going back to the stock cables which I found to be more cohesive and musical, but best to let your own ears decide!

Hello, I share my findings on this post:

Thanks for all the replys.

The powerline is sadly to expensive in relation to my system. I would just buy it otherwise.

I have been in contact with Dave, but he does not answer my questions. I do not live in the UK and want to know that the cables more or less fit my system when buying new. All he said was the No. 85. is far better than the No. 27.

Thinking of just buying some Belden 19364 and trying it out myself. Would Furutech Furutech FI-11 (Cu) and Furutech FI-E11 (Cu) be decent connectors to use?

I would not say no to that.

Furutech in general make good connectors so no worries there. I don't know these unplated cu versions.

In the lower end of high-end connectors (all very subjective of course) the ones from iEgo are very hard to beat and not too expensive imo. Contrary to Furutech who use fosfor bronze and brass in lower priced connectors, iEgo uses pure copper (plated or not) in all their connectors.
