Uniti Core Metadata Firmware and App Update

Posted by: NaimAudio on 05 May 2017

We are very pleased to announce that our work on the Uniti Core v1.4 Firmware metadata editing update and accompanying v5.6 iOS Naim app release will be available to download this afternoon.

Firmware Update v1.4

Feature: existing user edits on music imported from a previous generation Naim server will be reinstated.
Enabled: editable metadata fields: artist name, album title, track names, genre and album artwork.
Fixed: Occasional dropouts when playing FLAC files.

Naim iOS App Update v5.6

Added: metadata editing functionality now available for Uniti Core
Fixed: missing artist name and album name on the ripping monitor on Uniti Core
Fixed: long title track overlap on now playing screen
Fixed: last ripped filters on Uniti Core

Please Note:

- Editing of Composers and Conductors will not be enabled and is not currently planned as a future update.
- The metadata editing functionality is based solely within the app, there is no desktop editing functionality.
- Only ripped CDs or CDs imported from a previous Naim server that have been ripped, can be edited.
- Music content in the Downloads Folder cannot be edited so the option will not be available.
- 'Artist Name' cannot be changed globally, only on a per CD basis.
- When a Uniti Core is updated to the firmware which includes the 'Edit Metadata' feature, if the database already includes music from a previously imported Naim collection any user edits applied on that collection will be reinstated automatically.

There is a comprehensive metadata support document available to download from the Uniti Core Support Simulator, follow the link below and type 'Metadata' into the simulator search function.

Does "core firmware 1.4" mean About/ProductVersions/Application = 1.4.6801.0.0 ?

Check for Updates/Firmware Update says "Firmware is up to date" but doesnt tell me what the firmware actually is. Oh and "firmware is up to date" is clipped on the upper fade out.

"Register your product" still has marital status of "none, married, widowed, separated, divorced, single" with no "civil partnered"

Posted on: 05 May 2017 by jon h

Backup monitor/backup status still says "Files to process 79" and "Files processed 79" when it has completed. No idea what "Files to process" means

Posted on: 05 May 2017 by jon h

Schedule backup still completely opaque as to when it will run,  And no status of when last backup actually ran.

Settings/Feedback

"Send feedback directory to the developers during the beta period"

Firstly, I think you mean "directly". And this is not a beta. It was a wipe, clean download and install from applestore

I think i'll stop now else I'll be here all evening.

Thanks Jon, most of these will be fixed in the next release. The rest I will raise for discussion with the team.

I don’t think Jon’s ears are to be trusted at the moment.

Reading his posts, I’d say he has a substantial amount of steam coming out of them at the moment.

With good reason.

I bet you had to type that carefully.

If like me, you have 1100 albums and multiple versions of the same "tune".  The inability to search for individual tracks by name on the Core is not acceptable for a unit with this price tag.

Well I have just got this new update working, had to reinstall the App. For me I have just added most of the album covers that were missing, and for the moment I am happy. Horses for courses as they say...........

I don't know if the Naim App works differently with the Core but with a UServe if you select 'Tracks'  from  the list you can scroll down to show a dialogue box. Once all the tracks have been found you can search for an individual track.

In the n-Serve app under Maintenance/UpnP settings there is a setting Allowable Music Views/Tracks. Mine has always been set to 'false', since purchase, and I cannot see Tracks (as a list) on the Naim app. Has anyone changed the setting to 'true'?

And as I'm asking has anyone 'enabled index feature' under A-Z Index Settings or changed Internet Radio to 'true' under Allowable Device Views?

Thats the problem... The Core works differently and its not in a better way....

I think you mean Desk Top Client rather than the NServe  App.  I have Allowable Music Views/Tracks set to to 'true' and as far as I can remember it came like that. I can see a list of tracks on the Naim App. The other 2 settings you mention are set to 'false' I haven't tried changing them.

i am satisfied to not have sold my 2016 unitserve. I was thinking of the core but now less and less. I purchased an uptone audio js2 to power my serve and the effect is dramatic. I could not believe that the improvement will be so important.

Before, with tp ps on the serve, the sound for me was quite similar on upnp mode with my nds vs the core i borrowed last month.  To end, the core has a fixed linear ps and can't be upgrade.

Perhaps in the future, i will take something really better than core or unitserve, like a cad audio transport....some hifi reviews seem to point the excellence of this ripper/nas/server.

Posted on: 06 May 2017 by Gazza

I think a little balance is required in the core bashing....If like me you want a cd ripper and server with excellent sound quality that does not require any messing about on computers, it's really fine. I just want to listen to music, not faffing about. Just plug it in with ethernet and away you go, simple. For me now I can add the album covers I am happy. There are others who expected something else and are obviously disappointed. You need to decide what you really want or need, there are much cheaper ways of doing the rip and store if you love computers, I do not!

Glad you got it going.  If metadata editing stops working for you again, then rather than reinstall the app, if you go back to the screen where you select your Upnp server, by clicking on the icon of the Core, and then navigate through to the album you want to edit, you should find its ok again. I thought Naim had fixed this bug, but I've just had to do the above, so apparently they haven't.

best

You're right. I've never been happy with 'client' - very much a specialist use of the word - so I used app.

Is there a Desktop Client for the Core ?
