Uniti Core Metadata Firmware and App Update

Posted by: NaimAudio on 05 May 2017

We are very pleased to announce that our work on the Uniti Core v1.4 Firmware metadata editing update and accompanying v5.6 iOS Naim app release will be available to download this afternoon.

Firmware Update v1.4

Feature: existing user edits on music imported from a previous generation Naim server will be reinstated.
Enabled: editable metadata fields: artist name, album title, track names, genre and album artwork.
Fixed: Occasional dropouts when playing FLAC files.

Naim iOS App Update v5.6

Added: metadata editing functionality now available for Uniti Core
Fixed: missing artist name and album name on the ripping monitor on Uniti Core
Fixed: long title track overlap on now playing screen
Fixed: last ripped filters on Uniti Core

Please Note:

- Editing of Composers and Conductors will not be enabled and is not currently planned as a future update.
- The metadata editing functionality is based solely within the app, there is no desktop editing functionality.
- Only ripped CDs or CDs imported from a previous Naim server that have been ripped, can be edited.
- Music content in the Downloads Folder cannot be edited so the option will not be available.
- 'Artist Name' cannot be changed globally, only on a per CD basis.
- When a Uniti Core is updated to the firmware which includes the 'Edit Metadata' feature, if the database already includes music from a previously imported Naim collection any user edits applied on that collection will be reinstated automatically.

There is a comprehensive metadata support document available to download from the Uniti Core Support Simulator, follow the link below and type 'Metadata' into the simulator search function.

If like me, you have 1100 albums and multiple versions of the same "tune".  The inability to search for individual tracks by name on the Core is not acceptable for a unit with this price tag.

I don't know if the Naim App works differently with the Core but with a UServe if you select 'Tracks'  from  the list you can scroll down to show a dialogue box. Once all the tracks have been found you can search for an individual track.

In the n-Serve app under Maintenance/UpnP settings there is a setting Allowable Music Views/Tracks. Mine has always been set to 'false', since purchase, and I cannot see Tracks (as a list) on the Naim app. Has anyone changed the setting to 'true'?

And as I'm asking has anyone 'enabled index feature' under A-Z Index Settings or changed Internet Radio to 'true' under Allowable Device Views?

I think you mean Desk Top Client rather than the NServe  App.  I have Allowable Music Views/Tracks set to to 'true' and as far as I can remember it came like that. I can see a list of tracks on the Naim App. The other 2 settings you mention are set to 'false' I haven't tried changing them.

You're right. I've never been happy with 'client' - very much a specialist use of the word - so I used app.

The 'tracks' setting is in N-Serve for Mac, not the iOS version. Presumably also on the DTC. It works fine if you want a track list that you can view and search on the Naim app.

Is there a Desktop Client for the Core ?

No and Naim say none is planned.

Amusing that the Core Metadata .pdf demonstrates editing with screenshots of a classical compilation cd.

If you try and download the metadata editing documentation from the Core support simulator that is referred to in the first post from NAIMAUDIO in this thread, it's fine with a PC, but with my iPad Air (IOS 9.3.5)  I can only get the cover sheet.  I tried Safari, Chrome and Firefox.  Same with all three browsers.

That has to be a p*** take – least someone in software team has a sense of humour...!

Taking the p*** out of paying customers is never advisable - see Ratner et al.

all this negativity bothers me a little directed at a company that we have grown to love over a long, log time...

i sense the problem may simply be to do with  "managing expectations".

If this is not handled properly, it can very easily ruin a brand, and that would be a great pity.

But i am sure Naim are handling all these issues properly and i have just missed the communications.

enjoy...

I probably should have posted this here instead of another active thread. After updating to iOS v5.6, it appears that I don't have the links to the Rovi contents and/or to Amazon on tracks played from a USB stick anymore. Did I miss something?  :rouge:

Good to hear Trevor.

The Naim Audio that i have known and loved over many, many years has always made great efforts to solve any issues getting in the way of customers enjoying their music through their Naim systems. Long may that remain so.

As i suspect, all this dust may just be a matter of managing expectations very carefully -- but i am sure this is all in hand anyhow.

"May the music be with you"

I've found an odd thing with my Uniti Core which is running the latest release firmware and has an internal 500 GB SSD (the recommended type). Recently I turned the Core off to move it to a holiday place and then a week later turned it off to bring it back home.  But in each case I found it hard to get the Core to start up again.

In both cases I plugged in the network cable and the mains power lead and turned on the power. The standby light came on, but nothing else happened. I waited a minute or so and tried pressing the on/standby button. I tried a short press and I also tried a long press, but nothing happened still.  Then in both cases the following worked.  I turned off the mains to the Core and immediately turned it on again, within a second or so. In both cases the Core then started normally, all lights on, flashing and then steady after a few seconds, then the network connected (I could see the lights on my GS108 switch come on) and everything worked fine from then on.

I don't remember having this problem before the present firmware, although I tend to leave it powered on all the time and it hasn't been off since I put the first metadata editing beta firmware on it and changed the internal drive to SSD at the same time.

So am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug or a fault? The fact the Support wizard doesn't mention anything about starting from cold suggests to me that it should just start up as soon as the mains is on?

iOS App v5.6 (506626) bug report

Not Core or meta data related...

Just noticed that starting multi-room play (UnitiQute slaved to a SuperUniti) when the slave is in "muted" mode, the multi-room volume shows up with the speaker icon in "unmuted" mode and you have to press twice to unmute the slave.

One month since the last updates. Would it be unfair to suggest new status update and plan for future releases? :]

In any case keep up the good work Salisbury! We all know how painful this must be. We are all behind you. :super:
