My speaker demo experience for Supernait 2

Posted by: Artferg20 on 05 May 2017

Hi All,

My system:

Rega RP8, Rega Aria, Cadenza Red

SN2

Chord 2Qute-Vortexbox- Roon

Kef LS50

Today I spent the afternoon at tomtom audio listening to suitable speakers for my SN2. I have a budget roughly of £1500 to spend on new speakers with the main requirement being whichever speakers would have to work against the wall.

I used to own the original Juniors which i regrettably ended up selling.

They didn't have an SN2, so this was replaced with a 202/200. Speakers on the listening list to suit my requirements were the new Gurus Q10 & Juniors, finally the Neat Iota Alpha.  Started off with Q10s, immediately impressive very refined sound detailed and smooth underpinned with a lovely round bass, listened to various tracks on vinyl and moved on to the new Juniors.

Listening to the same tracks again on the Juniors, wow! The Juniors to me had more of an engagement factor about them, much more fun and seemed more detailed and open. The Q10s bass and overall sound was much more controlled and refined a little more grown up per se.

Didn't listen to the Neats because the layout of my lounge wouldn't have worked with them.

So that left the two Gurus! I ended ordering what I'd regrettably sold. The new juniors. The new crossover and drivers really have taken its sound to another level from what I remember of my old pair and a price increase to £1100. I had every intention to stretch my budget and go for the Q10s at £1800 as it's more appropriate to what I have. But ultimately preferred the sound of Juniors.

Only downside is waiting for their arrival in a few weeks.

Out of interest! Has anyone experienced N sats? I've seen a couple of preowned speakers floating around.

Thx

Great little speakers - fast and fun. A very neat design and work close to a back wall. Really need their own stands to get the best out of them. Limited low bass so they really need the n-Sub subwoofer in most rooms.

+1 re n-Sats: have been running my pair on their dedicated stands for 3 weeks now with a recently acquired pre-loved SN2  - and can confirm the combination works very well close to back wall. Very punchy and musical - the SN2 is just brilliant with plenty of controlled power reserves, which the n-Sats seem to crave for) - very rewarding indeed!

Thanks Vik

Do find the need for more low end?

You are most welcome ARTFERG20

I don't think I am missing low end now, but I can only imagine how much better my system could get if I were to add a n-Sub (challenging due to its substantial size - for my room that is) or one of the PMC subs which are slimmer. For the moment however, I will enjoy the system as is (only change would be the speaker cables - getting Tellurium Q Black II delivered tomorrow). Hope you find the right sound! V

Decided to stick with what I heard and liked. Waiting for Gurus.
