UnitiServe editing oddity
Posted by: Richard Morris on 07 May 2017
I downloaded 'Let It Be Told' (from Bandcamp - highly recommended) by Julian Arguelles and the Frankfurt Radio Big Band.
I ran the files through Metadatics and shortened the album/track artist to Julian Arguelles.
But on the Naim app he appears as julian Arguelles. Re-editing and capitalising the 'j' has no effect.
Any ideas?
Have you rescanned the downloads folder?

Doing it now - usually edits appear quickly and this has been uncorrectable for some months. But you never know.
Rescanning the downloads folder has no effect.
The Naim app. can be slow to display these changes, I've seen it take several weeks sometimes! After rescanning, try clearing the UPnP cache on the app, that sometimes helps.
Do check the sorting tab on the Metadatics. You may have a previous version of the artist's name there.
Might be worth checking whether there is an album artist tag spelt with a lower case 'j'

Also my idea!
Thanks for the ideas. Both the Sorting tab and Album Artist tag are empty. Clearing the cache on n-Serve has no effect.
I take the point about the change taking a while to appear but in my experience minor changes, even to files in the Download folder, appear quickly.
Is that an only album by that artist that you have?
I would also suggest removing it completetly from your server and wait for it to re-scan.
I would then delete all the tags via Metadatic and re-tag the album again.

Yes it is. I was thinking the same. I've also downloaded another copy to see if that makes any difference.
Trevor at Naim has asked to see the files so I'm sending them to him.
I have one album where my ns01 insist on playing track one twice. Really anoying but after cleaning up all the extra tags I can find I have given up on this one. I have not tried this on this album, but if you can get the meta data from an online source it may be worth to replace the data that is supplied in the files. mp3 tag can find a replace data in this way.

New copy downloaded from Qobuz (not Bandcamp - my mistake) still appears in n-Serve with a 'j' not a 'J'. Trevor has the files now and he's happy to have a look.
Do let us know what he finds.
I remember 'fighting' with an album for a fellow forum member few weeks ago - took me several attemps until it displayed correctly.
Trevor was unable to reproduce this problem on the files I sent to him. The problem persisted for me when I placed the files on a clean usb stick docked in my US.
So I've used the Frankfurt Radio Big Band as track artist, which reads as it should. 'julian' Arguelles is no more.
