System: DAC v1 > Chord Company Silver > Win10 Laptop. Steamer is TIDAL or Spotify (never running at same time). Headphone port used on DAC.
The above has worked as it should... until today.
Now... soon as I plug in the USB on my laptop (1) I have no 'mouse' functionality on my laptop (2) Dac V1 plays music but at volume 58 - volume dial doesn't work.
I've tried re-starting both devices. No success. I have not recently installed (to my knowledge) any Window updates.
Has anybody experienced anything like this?
Thanks!
If I want to listen to music at volume 58 and nothing else... then all good... and yet, I want more :-)

I've never seen the volume level shown when in fixed-output mode. My V1 responds to the remote volume control for my SN2, but it only enables the display and just shows the current source, confirms that it's in fixed output mode underneath, then the display goes off after a few seconds. Which leads me to the next question, if you've got no remote, and the volume dial doesn't work, how are you provoking it to display the volume, or is the display permanently on in your case?

Hi SongStream
As of today (it was working last Friday afternoon okay): Then I plug the ChordSilverUSB into my laptop, the V1 display shows Volume 58. At same time, my laptop becomes inoperable (keyboard and mouse seemingly disabled) when I durn the volume-knob clock/anti-clockwise the volume displays 58.
Let's say I start playing a track on Spotify on my laptop (through laptop speaker) and THEN connect the V1, well then the output plays through my headphones/V1... but only on volume 58... with my laptop otherwise inoperable. It's weird.
Do you follow me? Any bright ideas? THANKS!!

Oh..but if I plug that same cable instead into my iPhone.. and run the spotify / tiday streamers from there, then it's okay. Well, albeit volume steps are 12 at a time... which is an Apple issue. So it sounds like it's a software issue on my LapTop. But I don't know what... frustrating this is

A few things to experiment with based on some experiences I've had, and others have written about. If the keyboard and / or mouse you're using are USB, try using the DAC without any other USB devices attached and see what happens, preferably using the USB3 sockets for the DAC (the USB3 will be the blue sockets) assuming there are some. If that miraculously makes a difference, and the laptop has a mixture of USB3 and USB2 sockets, try the DAC in USB3, mouse and / or keyboard in USB2 sockets.
Do you have the latest windows drivers installed for the DAC-V? These can be downloaded from the product page on the Naim website and may help if not.

Thanks Again SongStream!
Okay...so I liked the idea and implemented immediately to 'Plug ONLY the DacV1 into a USB port / all other ports empty'. I have two ports and both are USB3.0. The same issue persists unfortunately.
I assume the DAC-V1 has the latest drivers installed because it was working last Friday. Without the remote, I cannot otherwise drill into the DAC's settings.
As I say, it works with the same USB cable plugged into my iphone (courtesy of one of them 'Lightening to USB' adaptors)

Solved! For future sufferers... in case any... here is the solution:
Search for most recent Window's updates. As we know Microsoft likes to surreptitiously install them without us necessarily knowing they happened. I found one installed itself late on Friday evening. I 'selected that Windows update. I un-installed the update. I restarted my laptop' >> peace in the universe is again restored :-)
