Unitilite Volume Control

Posted by: Coll on 08 May 2017

I often find to get a really good sound level that my volume is set at 40 to 45

Do others find this or are my speakers inefficient.

At 45 if I put my ear very close to the speakers there is a slight hiss is this normal also.

This cannot be heard in my normal listening seat.

It very much depends on the transfer level of the file / CD.

For classical disks and older disks encoded at the correct -18dB transfer level, I typically listen at 37 - 45.
For many recent non-classical disks encoded at the excessively high -8dB transfer level I typically listen at 27 - 33.

I use a NAC-N272 / NAP300(DR) / Spendor SP2s.
The low level of hiss detectable very close to the speakers is normal.
