Core importing music from NAS

Posted by: Jeff Kwong on 11 May 2017

i know that's not a new topic here, but I still facing some problems

1)

i have set the fixed IP to the core and enable master browser in my NAS. However, still unable to import music via the app( ok to have copy and paste from NAS to Download folder). It shown the spinning icon without doing anything, it said my "shared folder" is 0KB. Anything I missed?

2)

i used to rip CD into aiff format and completed the data work like album art via iTunes. However, after I copied and pasted the files into "download". All the album art gone( while DSD/flac format complete through Tag and Rename is normal) , is this normal? If so, what should I do? Rework on the thousand of album again ?

1. Why do you need to 'import' the music from your NAS? Core is able to read that library and serve it to a streamer on your network.

2. iTunes is very lousy at tag management. Best to invest in Metadatics or manually insert a JPG file of an album cover. Recommended file name 'folder.jpg'.

1) yes, my core able to view my "shared folder" in my NAS, but said my folder is "zero KB", i.e., no file inside.

2) working on it now... that's crazy

i have similar problem with my serve: with desktop client, i can't see anymore my music on my serve, on my pc, so i  can't add cover or change metadata.  I made me crazy too and decided not to continue for the moment. I can live with some albums 's covers missing....

For the core, your problem to import from your nas, have you tried to uninstall the naim app, install again, power off your nas and on again, and power off and on your core. Sometimes it works. I have had the core several days and tried this, it worked. Metadata ( files) appeared again.

1. Is the folder enabled with guest access rights? Best to enable: full. What NAS is it by the way?

2. Does the artwork problem concern only downloads or rips as well?

1) yes, synology 416

2) not yet testing the ripping side, so only "download" at this stage

2. I found that pretty much for every downloads I bought, I had to sort the artwork manually, by downloading it from the intenet and renaming it 'folder.jpg' and placing in the downloaded album's folder.

It's crazy for naim to release such a half done product. Finally ok to import the music, but 10 hours gone, just done 800 songs. What's wrong with it? Would technical support plz come out and hints me the solution ?

I recently imported a 400GB library into a Core for a client from a NAS/Serve, it took around 5 hours to do this. The library was mainly made up of Serve rips, and it sorted these into the same folder arrangement as the Serve with metadata editable (not however for the HD download files, these were imported into the Download folder).

The NAS drive used was a LaCie, which I struggled to find with the Core on 2 out of 3 different networks. This was also the same with another LaCie on the same networks, so I blame the LaCie enclosures for this.

I'm guessing that you and to insert your NAS username and password in order to access the shares with the Core?

This core situation is getting a problem ,is it a few problems with  a few units or is it due to releasing unit before it was ready, in the past naim never did that .period
