Issue after upgrading to Firmware 1.4 for the Core.

Posted by: Richard Choong on 12 May 2017

Everyone,

I thought it would be useful to post this here. I have sent the following email to Naim. It was part of a series of emails that I have had with Naim. Hope this helps everyone.

This is a follow up on the situation with the Core post the update of the Core to firmware 1.4.

Missing Music

After reformatting the drive and having confirmed that all the music was uploaded (was able to access the drive via mapping the Core to my notebook), I realized that while all the music was uploaded, not all the music was indexed.

Please see Pic 1 – This is a listing of the artistes folders for the letter “A” that was uploaded.

Pic 2 shows some of the listing on the Naim app for “A” artistes. As you can see several of the artists are missing.

Pic 3 shows how certain the band “Aqua” was discovered only on using the search tool but it does not show up on the list of “A” artistes.

Pic 4 shows how sometimes some artistes don’t even show up when searched. In the case, I used “adele” as an example.

Missing Albums

Another problem was that sometimes, even though the artiste is listed, not all their albums were available. I didn’t take a pic of this. Sorry.

Not limited to my Core

In order to be sure it was not a problem with my Core and that this was a systemic issue, I borrowed another Core (labeled “Core 2” for reference) from Ivan (Absolute Sound) and did the same review. Sure enough, the problem was also not his Core (though he wasn’t aware until I told him).

Pic 5 shows the listing for folders for the letter “A” and some “B” that were available on Core 2.

Pic 6 shows how the listing on the Naim app for “A” artistes do not show all the artistes for Core 2 (but missing B.B King).

Pic 7 shows the listing for albums for B.B King uploaded onto Core 2.

Pic 8 shows that how if you search by album name, you will find B.B King’s albums but if you refer to Pic 6, you will see that B.B. King is not listed.

Based on the above, I believe there is a bug which has yet to be resolved. So please advise on what next steps will be.

Hi Richard,

You say that you've emailed us but I believe I haven't seen anything from you myself - can you forward me a copy of your email (to support@naimaudio.com) so that I can pick this up with you directly?

Cheers

Phil

I am also having problems with core since software upgrade.

i am experiencing similar problems where albums show on the album let, but the artist s not showing on the artist list and fuse versa.

i have a further issue that my core now no longer sees the download folder, so 60 percent if my music is not showing.

these details are apparent on the iPad. When I go onto the laptop and through my computer to look at the core, I can see the 2 folders, one being downloads, but when I try to look at the den load folder I get an error message stating that the folder cannot be accessed.

i have emailed uniti help on this and an initial reply was the usual power down answer and reset system, which did not work. Not had any other answers to emails since original query.

very frustrating

Just add to the above, here are the original email from Naim, and my follow up email, yet unanswered.

Hi Richard,

I notice that your albums are all in the downloads folder so I'm curious to get hold of the album(s) that are in (say) the "Adam Haraslewicz" folder and perhaps some of the other missing artists (if possible) to see what the actual tagging is on those files - we often get people getting confused between folder names and file tags and presuming that their music should be laid out as per the folder structure and not realizing that the file tags are putting albums in places they don't expect...

I think that would be a good place to start ...

Cheers

Sure! Perhaps I can send them to you by email or give you a link to my dropbox?

Tell me what's the best way to get those files to you.

Hi Richard,

If you email me a link to the dropbox files at the address I gave you above then that should be fine...

Best

Everyone,

I think I may have solve my problem. Let me know if it works for you.

In each of your album folders you will have a "meta.naim" and possibly a "rip.naim" file. Do a search of the entire downloads folder then delete all of the "meta.naim" and  "rip.naim" files.

After that, give your Core some time to update (just a few minutes will do) then check if all the artistes names are listed with all the albums.

After a lot of trying this and that, I came across this solution and it seems to work. You may find that you have some stubborn folders. For those, I deleted those folders then using either Windows or Mac (I prefer to use Windows. Less issues) then cut and paste into the downloads folder. It should work.

For those who don't know how to map the drives, for Windows, follow these steps:

1. Right click on "this PC".

2. Select "Map network drive".

3. A window pops up. In the "folder" box, type in "\\[name of your Core, eg. UnitiCore413633]\downloads\".

4. you might be asked for a user name and password. Just use admin and admin.

Phil - In light of this, do you still want me to provide you the files?

Hi Richard,

I would still like those files please if possible...
