Does Nac 282 work without napsc?

Posted by: cheeselet on 12 May 2017

Sorry to ask a basic question but I've the chance of a 282 which is without napsc?

No it won't. The napsc works the controls etc

A NAPSC can be purchased.....

It is odd, though, for a 282 to come without a NAPSC. I would worry about the provenance of it.....

The 282 is normally sold with a NAPSC included in the box, as it won't work without one. Shouldn't be too hard to find one, though.

The guy has already sold the napsc so he just has the 282.

That would be ok if I had done the napsc upgrade to my 202. I was going to get around to it. That would have given me one in hand.

I'll get around to it a bit quicker now.

'The Guy' is clearly (?) not very 'knowledgeable'....  Caveat Emptor.

I think the the 200 can do both power the speakers and the 282.

But its a non regulated amp, unlike the 250!

Yes, but you still need the NAPSC.

Silly me, that's correct, that just eliminates the PS.

The Napsc controls the digital section of the 282.

Not all timers, but some timers! LOL...

That sounds a bit dodgy.

Not just that, but how will you be able to test it before purchase? Or do you really thinking of buying a 282 without testing?

I wonder what other necessary parts might have been sold off!  Knobs, maybe?  You should ask.

He'll bring it round Sunday so I'll update you all then.

Thanks for the info.

Quite. I think i'd want to know a bit more about its provenance.

I would suggest that the seller purchases a napsc and then sell it as the unit it should be.

I suggest you email Naim support and ask them to check the serial number of the 282 you are interested in.
They have a database of NAIM equipment which was for instance reported as stollen. They can also tell you if it was ever serviced, where it was originally sold to (which country).

very good point from Adam, how can you know if the 282 works or not.

In any case if you can make it work ok if you are able to get your own NAPSC, then at a good price, the 282 could be your end game preamp. For me it certainly is.

Maybe somone who has a NAC282 could unplug the Napsc and tell us what they find.

Silence!

Posted on: 13 May 2017 by cheeselet

It has been serviced by Naim 2013 ,"the guy" seems quite bona fide.

I don't think it's stollen, that is a heavy Dutch cake!

Napsc on its way.

End game in sight!?

Thanks all for the information.

bona fide. 1540s, Latin, literally "in good faith," ablative of bona fides "good faith" (see faith). Originally used as an adverb, later (18c.) also as an adjective. The opposite is mala fide.

I guess it really depends on the SN, and price!

Enjoy your Pre-Amp.

Plug Napcs in and connect to 282

Plug PS in and connect to 282

Make sure power is turned on, then the 282 will stop flashing!

Just didn't want you to make the stupid mistake I made!

No plug on the 282, must get additional power for analog side.

Allante93!
