dbpower amp, naim app and cataloguing issues

Posted by: pete scholey on 12 May 2017

I have a NAC272 using a qnap 3 TB hard drive that is connected via the electric circuit using the ethernet connection. I have apple devices and use the naim app to control my music.

The issue is this.

For example Jean michel jarres electonica 1 cd.  nearly every track is with another artist and when I first started using dbpoweramp I simply loaded it and pressed rip. When I tried playing the cd via the artist route on the naim app I found about 13 different entries for the same cd, each one a single track. Only after several 100 more cds did I realise that ALT + M allows you to edit the metadata to change things. So now I can re-rip the electronica 1 cd and change the data to just JMJ and drop all the additional artists.. problem solved

However, I can not get rid of the other entries on the naim app..Every cd that I ripped incorrectly I have deleted off of the qnap and re-ripped correctly. But all the previous entries on the app are still showing, even though there is no music associated with this..

I am told that clearing cache on the app may solve this but I am not sure what this does and if it will affect stuff I dont want to remove.

Can anyone assist please.

Clearing the cache on the app may or may not help, but it will do no harm. Give it a try.

I worry as someone said it would remove all album art...

It removes the album art from the cache in the app, so it's just as if you had just installed the app from the App Store.  The app has to go and get the album art again, but it's all still on your NAS, so it's not a problem.  It can't do any harm, as Chris says.

You don't need to re-rip anything. Just go into the folder on the Qnap using windows explorer, highlight the files, right click and choose edit metadata. That will open dbpoweramp and off you go. In the case of the Electronica album you can set the album artist as JMJ and leave the tracks with their own artists, if you wish.

Using the app, clear the upnp cache as well. You may also need to rescan Asset.
