Accumulating a time delay on streamed radio?

The MuSo has kept losing the signal from R4 all morning. I had not been concentrating well enough to realise that the gaps were just gaps (very hard to determine when it is that aural paint drying of Saturday Live) and a time delay was building up. But at 12.11 the mid-day timecheck was played and that made me realise something strange had happened.

What is causing the delay, or is it just living in Suffolk?

That's what happens to me with my Uniti.

Usually not as bad as yours, but the news might typically start at two or three minutes past the hour.

And, yes, it can be difficult to detect that gaps are just gaps!

As I've written on another thread; that my Euro39 Google Chromecast dongle is capable of streaming not just sound, but full HD video, flawlessly from the same router as my very expensive Uniti is incapable of doing with humble Radio 4, is just not good enough.

Not just me then. Is this a known problem with Naim? Yesterday was a bit unusual that R4 was on most of the day from around 0800 until my wife noted that the Woman's Hour "omnibus" was finally playing at the correct time. Just before then  the total delay was nearly 20 minutes.

There is clearly some sort of cache in the machine. But what is the root of the problem?

Hi Nick,

We have very limited memory in the Muso.  Based on the audio data rates involved in theory the Muso could have around 2 mins of compressed audio inside it.   Typically it's more like 20-30secs.

It more indicates that the bbc were having big problems with their hls streaming servers and the table telling the product what to play now and next was all out of sync.   On the bbc hls format it chops the audio into segments.  On live streams the muso has no way to gain the ability to be so out of sync without a server side fault where its hosting historical audio as 'now'.

If the fault occurs again, post on the forum asap and we'll check it at naim to see what is going on.   As of this morning it seems to be running ok.

Happening again now. Not as bad as yesterday, but more than 5 minutes delay already accumulated.

Thanks for the response, Steve.

Hi Nick,

i'll do a few spot checks over tomorrow and compare it against FM to see what the sync difference is.
