No more black boxes?

The unexpected arrival of a second Supercap DR in Marksnaim Towers means I'm maxed out. Could this be the end of upgraditis? Relocation and addition of Fraim later in the year will be, possibly, the end of the upgarde journey that I've been on over the last few years. Having owned active Isobariks back in the 80's it was a long term goal to get back to that. But listening now to Gary Numans last album at some serious volume (house to myself briefly) and I realise that this system surpasses my 80's rig by a massive margin. Putting the final Supercap DR on the Superline and swapping the Supercap 2 onto the 282 now makes this system seriously effortless. I am breaking the rules setup wise (it's stuffed into an oak cabinet with the LP12 on top), but that can't be helped at the moment. I'm not concious of it holding the performance back but I'm sure it is. Really looking forward to getting the house sorted out and finally liberating the last constraints and really unleashing it. This is making the hairs on my arm stand up!! Incredible!

That's great to hear, Mark. Good for you.

(Love the bit about the unexpected arrival of the SC-DR btw!)

I might try that at home with a surprised "Gosh, where did that come from?...fancy that. Just what I was after too."

I have a mental image of the door bell going mid-morning. Marksnaim opens door. Caped superhero in green suit and naim logo on his chest hands him the box and says, 'Mr Marksnaim, this is for you with our compliments'.

Hmmm...You give me an Idea. I wonder which of my friends I could persuade to dress up in such an outfit...

Chris,

you have an avatar. This is the Fact of the 2017. I'd rather expected the depicted scene at Marksnaim's door than to see an image close to your name.

Happy 2017,

M

No more black boxes for me either.

I see you are using super lumina and already have a high spec LP12. You owe it to yourself to try one of the Chord interconnects (Sarum T, perhaps?) between the Urika and 552. And many LP12 owners seem to be engaging with the Tiger Paw Tranquility currently. That would be a pretty cool fettle!

Does this caped superhero have a Naim?

There is this thing called Statement. Upgraditis will never end. Economic realities might kick in but might not be a true cure.

Clive,

I have Super lumina full loom including RCA/DIN between urika/552. Very happy with this and not interested in other cables. Listened to the Tranquility, can't get on with it and don't understand what all the fuss is about. I posted my thoughts in another place and was cast into the wilderness.

Congratulations, same scenario, just short on Cash!

Effortlessly is an excellent adjective to describe an active system.

Then:

LP12/Ghenki>Dirack>Linn XO/Bingo card

Karin>3 x LK 280s>Briks

Now:

Cdx2>282>HCDR>3 x 250.2>Briks

Can't wait, Next:

SCDR & Snaxo 362

The unexpected bit relates to the fact that having bit the bullet and decided to upgrade my SC2 to a SCDR that was on E&&y and having had it delivered at 9:50am on Thursday I then received a call from the devil...sorry, I mean my local dealer at 4pm the same day. They'd just taken in a SC recently serviced and upgraded to DR and was I interested?? SAME day!! WTF?? What are the chances? Anyway, the price was reasonable and who was I to refuse such an obviously serendiptous offer.

Seems I wasn't that far off with my imaginings.

Allante93!

Thanks, same here now

Another aspect to this latest expenditure, on top of the Effortless bit, is how much better it sounds at lower volumes. Currently listening to Bill Frissell and Elvis Costello, Deep Dead Blue. Wonderful. Transparent. Smooth. Liquid aural lovliness.
