The end of the MP3

The Atlantic reports that mp3 licensing has ended. https://www.theatlantic.com/ne...d-of-the-mp3/526716/
While I suspect few here will shed a tear, Jeff Anderson's ears must surely be burning.
Doesn't mean it's dead–just that it's now patent- and licensing-free–and it's still widely used for internet radio streaming, among other codecs.
Was it ever alive?
MP3 has always sounded lifeless to me....

I will be fine. My ears are fine and will be fine. I still have a disc player and all my cd collection. Can always re-rip if necessary. Thanks for your concern, joerand . I am just pleased that I get to listen to so much extra music (that has been declared "unlistenable" by the self-proclaimed "golden ears") because my system is not good enough for me to know the recording quality is so bad. I have been listening to music for 60+ years, I have no insecurities of my listening abilities. Hope you are well and enjoying your new equipment, regards, Jeff A
