Serviced my 52

Posted by: Sounsfaber on 18 May 2017

Im sure this will be a bit boring and self indulgent,

I just would like to report some great news. After getting my 2000 52/SC serviced here in New Zealand my life has changed. The concept of what I once thought was music hads been rearranged in a very good way.

I did have the 52 running on an older but serviced SC for a few months, to me that was impressive. Anyway once the sister SC/52 had been serviced and with 3 months to settle in. I just can't believe the difference ,  it's like night and day "the veil " has been lifted. Even my little entry level Mk2 credos are enjoying the music. The separation is just astonishing sound stage too. Its opened up the Cds2. I'm surprised and very pleased.

I do humbly encourage anybody that thinks they're 16-year-old box is working just fine to think again.

A wonderful thing indeed.

Wonderful news!  It was similar for me when my POTS2 NAC52 went in for its first service and POTS8 upgrade.  My goodness, that helped the music along a bit...

yes, its is absolutely amazing how a well serviced 52 stands its ground. i'm using one right now with Supercap DR into active 500s/SL2s and its showing what its capable of in that setup.

enjoy

Thoughts on the DR S/C? Hasn't removed any spark from the olive?

cheers

It's certainly worth auditioning a Supercap DR on the 52 to find out if you prefer it over an olive SC or a 52PS.  Technically, it should bring an improvement, especially with its lower noise floor and better regulation.  Several 52 owners have happily gone down this path.

I preferred the olive supercap on mine, possibly because the 52 was originally voiced to go with the 52PS/supercap.

If you do try a SCDR with your 52, do let us know how you get on.

Best regards, FT

i am not too sure what you mean by 'spark'. what i can say is that i havent noticed any diminution of key musical elements and their integration -- only quite significant enhancements -- most noticeably in the area of dynamic range...

The NAP500 was originally demonstrated with the NAC52, of course, so it is, perhaps, not surprising that they work well together.
