Atom - DELAYED AGAIN?!?!

Posted by: L_H on 18 May 2017

Having 2 x Atom's on order I was frustrated to learn today the the Atom's are delayed until June now. "Software" is the reason given yet the dealers, (I spoke to 3 today) appear to be out of the loop.  Does anyone have a valid answer? How badly wrong can anyone get a product launch date without commenting and keeping loyal customers informed? I would also like a Star but no-one appears to know when that will be released!

Phil,

Thanks for the quick reply and clarification.  Being very cheeky, but if there is any chance Naim could slip a Nova code load in any earlier (for my preorder that goes back to November), I would certainly appreciate it!

And I know my dealer would.  Been borrowing some of his Naim demo kit since placing order and a few weeks has turned into nearly 6 months now....

Hi John,

It's soooo very tempting to reply with "Of course John but only for you and not for anyone else..." and see the reaction that you get at possibly skipping the queue...

The reality is - of course - that it isn't possible to just slip a Nova code load in early ... and all dealers will get their order allocation in the order that they were placed and it would be unfair to do anything other than that.

I'm sure you can understand.

Any news on the "Star", which has slipped to the back of the (release) queue, to allow extra time for testing of the cd ripping performance - presumably as a result of the backlash following the release of the Core‼️

Encouraging news in the update thread posted yesterday in case you missed it.

Hi,

Nova is scheduled for a month after Atom and Star is scheduled for a month after Nova...

Does anyone know how the new unitis display spotify tracks yet? As in, will they show album art for the currently played track?

Posted on: 16 June 2017 by DomTomLondon

Good question Dave-Mac, I'm also curious to know how well integrated it will be with streaming services like Spotify, Tidal, etc. when it comes to album art. That screen looks promising, but only if it is actually used to its full potential.

Hi Dave-Mac,

Yes, the new Uniti players will display album artwork for the currently playing track through Spotify.

Best Wishes,

Naim

Excellent, album artworks making a comeback!

Is this also the case with Tidal?

Any certification news?

Posted on: 20 June 2017 by Klout10

From the website of the Dutch distributer:

"We would like to inform you about the current state of affairs regarding the delivery of UNITI ATOM. We were informed by NAIM that they are in a final phase and all certifications have now been completed.

Production has been started for a while and is still waiting for the final software version for shipping. An exact delivery date is not known yet, but we expect this to happen at any time."

Hi,

As per my previous posting (and confirmed again this afternoon) - once we have all the final certs approved and in then we can start shipping units ...

As far as I am aware we have not released any official notification that all certifications are now signed off and the information I have is that there are still some outstanding.

Cheers

I know I said I would detach myself from this post and channel energy elsewhere; except I have to comment on a point I made earlier somewhere in here. The disties, resellers, dealers, what ever you guy's call them in your channel need to be controlled. They are either BS-ing - (I can only image to retain back order sales) or they are passing on information rom Naim that is channel specific non-end user facing communication that may even be under NDA. I've read the post on the Netherlands distie site, it's quite specific. This may also tie in with one of the dealers suggestion of a Naim issued e-mail sent a couple of weeks ago that was denied.

Thank you Phil for jumping in and setting the record straight.

All the best.

P.S. [@mention:69004037512168611] Hopefully soon, Pal - finally on arrival: 1st a 24 hour burn-in.; then an array of snax, a quality bottle of red, TIDAL and lifetime collection of flac files and listen until the early hours.

You sir are a man after my own heart....soon!

What speakers are you going to use?

And for what it's worth (a pinch of tiny salt) i had an unprompted text off my dealer today....first week in July!

Hi Phil,

Thanks for responding. Could be me being stupid but yours is the first official Naim post I have seen today.

I honestly don't know yet, I haven't got a huge budget for this system, those days have gone with 2 kids under 3! And have had some in the past that I've been really unhappy with. ATC 19 I'll try, PMC 22 perhaps. I love the look (I know, I know, you don't listed with your eyes) of the Aria 906's, I'm told that they are "exceptionally well" matched with the Atom and NAP100 which I have, not sure if that's spin because Focal are owned by the same group as Naim or if they really are suited. If they are that good, they are comparatively cheap so that's great. I have some Chord Odyssey which I'll keep for now and connect at all up with a Chord Shawline and a couple their Cat cables or some Audioquest ones.

First week in July would be great, I have the week off!

You had any thoughts? I would love some speaker guidance; I've had WB Arc's & SQ2's Spendor, B&W etc and none of them overwhelmed me and I've had lots of different kit over the years.

Posted on: 20 June 2017 by Tastiehastie77

I went for some B&W Cm10s2...I bought them when O ordered the Uniti, On paper they will be grossly under powered by the atom, But actually rather surprising (I demonstrated them with a nap100) just how well they sound. If worst comes to the worst, I shall hide a nap 200 in a cupboard somewhere .

Will there be any other software besides the proprietary Naim app that can be used to control the Atom?

Depends in what way you want to control it ... any UPnP control point will work.

Interesting ... the Naim app cannot be used to control non-Naim renderers but any UPnP control point shall be able to control a Naim renderer?

Hi,

No - not really - a UPnP control point will be able to control a limited range of UPnP functionality on them but will not be able to control any of the other functionality of the Atom / Star / Nova...

Best
