Atom - DELAYED AGAIN?!?!
Posted by: L_H on 18 May 2017
Having 2 x Atom's on order I was frustrated to learn today the the Atom's are delayed until June now. "Software" is the reason given yet the dealers, (I spoke to 3 today) appear to be out of the loop. Does anyone have a valid answer? How badly wrong can anyone get a product launch date without commenting and keeping loyal customers informed? I would also like a Star but no-one appears to know when that will be released!

Show to whom? You can better serve the company you feel loyal to by being critical and patient rather than by being indulgent and impulsive.
I do not know what you mean by "hifi purists" but I guess that many contributors to this forum would indeed see very good reasons for spending their money on a Uniti2. I certainly do so and I would have no reservations buying a Uniti2 now. I would know what I buy. This is something that I could not claim if I would order one of the new Uniti devices.
This brings us back to the issues discussed in this thread. My view is that, by all troubles with delays, price increases, etc., we should not forget that what actually matters at the end of the day is not the price of a device or the time it takes to be released but its value. If we are satisfied with what we have bought, we will associate to it a high value. The other way round if we feel disappointed, of course.
Thus, if we do not particularly enjoy returning units or reselling them on the second hand market, it is crucial not to order devices that we do not fully trust to meet our expectations. By contrast, if we feel very confident of our choices, it does not really matter if a unit comes a bit later or if it costs a bit more. A little bit, I mean.
I'm not sure I agree with the bit I've bolded. For me, my wish for a new Uniti is as a second system, I have the ability to listen to music in high quality on my main system, albeit with less stunning views from the window. If I were looking to have my only high end system, then lack of access to music in high quality would seem to me to decrease the utility, that's a chunk of my listening life I will never get back, so would significantly impact my view of the value.
I still don't actually know what the airplay 2 thing is??
I thought this was going to be "It's here link" doh!!!
By my reckoning a week to go until mid june, what's the latest Mr Naim......are you on track?
Airplay 2 is due to arrive as part of iOS11 in the Autumn, so I would hope Naim aren't waiting for that to arrive before they can release their new products!

I have an idea....let's start that rumour......the proverbial will fly??
Saying that...I actually wouldn't be surprised!!

It depends ... I'm only guessing here ... but if Apple want a range of products available which are compatible with AirPlay 2 by the official release of iOS11 in the Autumn, then they are going to want devices being released now. It was only being held back by the announcement.
As I say, only guessing ...
Good assumption.....I hadn't thought about it like that.
So by that, you think Naim have already implemented whatever it needs inside, and had to wait for Apple to announce before they let gear go??
Makes sense.
Hi all
for the purpose of clarity, the announcement from Apple yesterday has had no impact or correlation to the New Uniti range development timing and delivery. Airplay 2 is a separate feature for update at a later point in line with Apple release.

Phew!!!

Any news on how it is all going?
I'm so happy it's less than two week to go until I can walk into my dealers showroom and collect my Atom...

Mid-June, isn't it?
So with mid June being next week and my dealer saying it should arrive by end of second week of June is there any progress report if this is likely?
No news is good news......right?!
Well I hope it does launch on time and with no problems. However, the resolution of core problems has been slow, Naim have underestimated their staffing level for field concerns in my opinion. So, if Atom, Nova and then Star have field problems, it does not bear thinking about......
I hope demand doesn't exceed supply and we're left with another wait for delivery! My local dealer has been very good at keeping me up to date. Any chance Naim will offer a good deal for our patience.
Am I losing it or was there a thread in the Featured Topics section of this Forum called something like New Uniti Progress which was last occasionally updated - last post being May 31st?
Just went to check it and it seems to have disappeared.
Edit: just found it in the Music Room featured topics - could have sworn it was here on Streaming Audio - surely a more appropriate place?

Yup....seems to have vamooshed!!?
I think someone at Naim must have unfeatured it across all forums. I have now moved it to a featured topic in the Hifi Corner, which is probably the most appropriate place for it to reside.
Thanks Richard - looking forward to the weekly update which is due tomorrow.
Mid June and the Atom will be with all our UK dealers, you don't think that Naim would dare miss this deadline do you?
The functionality will be 99% perfect from launch with just a software upgrade or two to fix a few spelling mistakes and the like.
That sounds like fighting talk, Christine

I've been buying Naim product for over 100 years now and apart from the very very small glitch with the Core they never let their customer down.
