monitor speakers for nap 300
Posted by: French Rooster on 21 May 2017
hello,
i have nap 300 dr and a room of around 14/15 feet(18/20 m2). I wonder if a high end monitor speakers would not be the best for my not so big room. I am thinking of raidho d1 or apertura kaiya or wilson audio duette. But no dealer have these speakers with naim electronics.
My current are apertura altra, but the nap 300 can have better speakers i think. The bigger apertura may be too much in my room.
Anyone has tried big monitors with nap 250, 300 or even 500? thanks. ( ps: i don't like focal with naim, so not sopra for me).
Kudos 606 should fit the bill quite nicely
. I'm not a huge fan of monitors as a small floor stander takes up the same space and usually provides a fuller musical experience.
I have heard the Raidho monitor and they were very clear and musical but really suffered from no bass extension. If you are into acoustic guitar and vocals they would be terrific but keep in mind that they need to be out in the room to perform. Out in the room is not to be misunderstood as a few feet off the back wall- when I heard them they were literally about 6 feet from the listening position, about 12 feet apart and toed in tremendously to point at each ear! There was about another 10 feet to the back wall so basically the speakers sat mid room with the listener. Sounded great but might be a bit of trouble in a non dedicated listening room ![]()
Good luck and have fun!

Mark
Not sure what your music preferance is, but Harbeth SHL5+ comes to mind as a great standmount speaker , although a rather large one.
Raidhos D1.1 would be really nice. They don't need to be that far into the room to perform. They do need to be spread apart about that far and seating position is going to need to be close. I'd say no farther than 8-9'.

thanks for the answer. Did you heard them with naim amps? is their bass good for monitors?
I am thinking also of kharma speakers, the first model can accommodate perhaps in not big rooms as mine, 14/15 feet...

yes, but i think my apertura are on the same level, perhaps better even... The 40.2 is better but too big for my room i think.

1 feet from the wall and 10 feet from my position is what i have at home. Perhaps in a 14 feet room as mine the bass will be enough?

Raidho do pair well with Naim. Before Aavik was introduced I'm told Lars used a SN with his D1. Bass may be lacking depending on what you're looking for. D2.1 may be a a better route or maybe XT 2. What about Dynaudio C1? Don't think you'll have any lack of bass with those. As long as you don't listen at high volumes those would be great. Maybe even the new Contour C20. I like mine.
Focal Utopia Diablos or Sopra 1.

unfortunately i don't like focal and dynaudio speakers. I don't like bw too...
Some years ago i have listened to sonus faber cremona auditor, smooth, lot of details, good imaging. But not very fast and dynamic.
I am very pleased with my apertura, but bigger ones will saturate my room.
Given what you don't like, see if you can hear some Totem speakers in your price range.

my goal is to find big monitors, in the 10k/15 k range, that can accommodate a room of 15 feet and nap 300 dr amp. My favorite sound is between kharma and sonus faber speakers, a sonus faber sound with more speed and reactivity. The look is also important to me.
My apertura are nice and the sound is near kharma and sonus faber, but the bigger ones may be too much. I don't know how can sound raido d1 with naim. For totem, sorry, but i find them not very elegant. But i know totem works well with naim.
Living voice maybe...but not so nice. Entry level kharma or raido d1 for nnow, maybe....but naim, focal, proac, dynaudio, bw: not my sound.
I know, the best choice would be a bigger room....
I have heard several Vivid designs with Naim.
A couple of months ago I heard B1's driven with a Uniti Nova, Admittedly only with a lower amp than yours (NAP 300), but they were good. The night I heard them, I also heard Utopia's driven by a 272/555/300. I know where I would explore speakers further. Not saying the dearer combo was worse, but the sonic character of the Vivids was pretty good.
They're really quick! Design philosophy broadly aligns with PRATs such as myself, and I love the styling, I have heard them sounding a bit bottom heavy once, which was a surprise because everything you read about them points to the opposite.
The B1's sell for $20k here in Australia, would suspect they are 8-9k pounds over there. The B1 Decade is $32k AUS, so should fit in your zone.
ATC SCM 19s would be worth considering
Are you in the UK?
Il est en France. C'est don son profile.
From my experiences with monitors, there's no need to go to such expense. The likes of ATC 20SLs ProAc D2's, Kudos C10s and so on will relish being on the end of a NAP300. The trick is to find an 88-91db speaker your amp will drive to its limits with ease, then you'll find the speaker disappears.
Shahinian Obelisk or Hawk might fit the bill without being too physically dominating... what kinds of music do you like?
TAD. Compact Evolution One, or the more spendy Compact Reference One looks very tasty.

BIG + 1 for the TADs. I've heard these speakers driven by a 300 a couple of times and that combo is absolutely jawdropping...

Stereokonzept loudspeakers from Germany are nice, but not readily available in France. If you like their look, I am thinking about the Monitor 1 and the Modell 3 floorstander, you might be able to work out a demo with the Company.

are they not a little on the analytical side? but otherwise great speakers with very good reviews. I heard some put some soft sounding amps as luxman or accuphase to compensate. But perhaps a good choice...

jazz, vocal, soul, jazz-rock....for me timbres, tone and dynamic are the most important, also disappearing of the speakers.

very tempting, but do you heard them with naim?

i see you have sonus faber memento now. How can you compare the sound of tad and sonus faber?
The TAD is really yum....
