282/headphone amp quandary

Posted by: joe9407 on 22 May 2017

hello all, i hereby summon the collective wisdom of the forum!

i just got a headphone/headphone-amp setup; grabbed a DIN-to-RCA cable from the sideboard; plugged the DIN end into the "Tape In/Out" socket on the back of the 282; selected the "Tape" button on the bottom row of buttons on the 282; selected the correct source button on the top row of buttons; made sure everything was on, nothing was muted, and so forth...

...but i can get no sound out of the headphones.

any ideas why this might be so? do i need to program/reprogram the 282 in some way? where have i gone wrong?

your advice would be most appreciated.

Is the DIN plug on the DIN > RCA cable wired the right way - I suspect your DIN plug is wired as an input cable rather than an output cable.

Hi, are you using a standard Din / 2 RCA if so you need one that is wired with the correct termination ie tape output or you can you a Din / 4 RCA using the two output leads.

i'm using a standard DIN-to-RCA cable, the kind you would use to connect a Naim CD player to a non-Naim preamp.

but if it's just a matter of getting the correct cable, i can do that.

but while we're on the topic -- if i wanted to listed to a CD through the headphones, and i had the (correct) cable plugged into the "Tape In/Out" socket, all i would need to do is select "CD" on the top row of buttons and "Tape" on the bottom row?

You can get the correct lead from Flashback Sales good quality and value for money.

You select the source you want to listen to on the bottom row not tape unless that's want to hear through you headphones

thanks, Gary. do i need to select any particular button(s) on the top row?

top row is for listening through speakers bottom row is for recording which ever source is selected therefore you could listen to one source whilst recording another or in this case listening to headphones
